1540 WPTT Hartford to become WEMP

Probably nothing will change in regard to programming. They dumped the classic Hits ("Party") format when they sold the translator, and went back to oldies. So the WPTT call letters are just left over. WEMP 1250 was a well-known Milwaukee Top 40 station in the 60s-70s, so the call letters work well for the format, and they were suddenly available. I doubt there will be any other changes, since it's a locally-owned AM station with a small coverage area and no FM translator. Like it's sister FM station (classic country WTKM), they super serve the northwest suburbs, with limited investment, and the signals barely cross the Milwaukee County line.
 
Am I the only one that noticed WEMP / WPTT (1540) doesn't have a livestream or a website?

Likewise didn't anyone else notice WKTM has a website but no livestream?

In Today's world - I can't imagine why there's no livestream unless they are not offering a livestream due to licensing.

I prefer the term "online broadcast" but more than likely the reason why is $ for licensing being cost-prohibitive.

Fair enough, I guessed licensing - I must ask why they don't have a website. WIDE-LP in Madison has a website and they only operate at 99 watts. They don't stream online - my guess is licensing but they at least have a website.

I feel dumb asking this but do you need a license just to have a website for the station or just for streaming?

Tomsun Media (essentially WTKM and WEMP) is a very small mom-and-pop operation. Not much overhead, small air staff, and they're very local-oriented (essentially a 15 mile radius around Hartford). The FM is classic country, local news and shows, and high school sports. The AM is more of the same, with oldies. Nothing that really stands out streaming on the World Wide Web, but I occasionally listen to the FM, and think it's a pretty good station.

On an interesting note, WTKM was a notable station up until the late 80s when they ran a full-time polka format. They even showed up in the Milwaukee ratings books. My grandfather was a fan. Slowly, as the polka audience died off, they gravitated toward the current country format. Ownership changed twice since then.

Anyone can put up a website. Zero restrictions. For streaming, they would need to pay royalty fees for the music, if any. Server and hosting costs also apply. Perhaps even website maintenance (if any). Once that's covered, it's on!

Probably never will be a stream for 1540 since it's only a daytime station and the ownership chose to sell off the associated translator that they had. Frankly, it's surprising there's even a separate format on there, and they just didn't go back to simulcasting WTKM-FM. Can't imagine there are many people keeping track sign-on sign-off times these days to hear their oldies.
 
It's also a shocker to see they actually did sell their translator. I'm listening to see if they actually do sign off. It's quite a strong signal in Fitchburg using an antenna I built specifically tuned for 1540.
 
Ahh yes I remember the Polka format from back-in-the-day! I am in full support of the Polka format. It ran through the 2010s. Can you imagine the music library?

I do remember the Polka format and I did find the stream and I most certainly can imagine the Music Library.

I found a stream for them, although to be honest I don't know if it's actually WTKM doing it directly.

It's possible that someone else created it as an internet station. But it sure brings back Childhood Memories, My Grandpa would listen to this exact format.

It's NOT their country format at all, nor is there a DJ or commercials, but I did find their Polka format and what appears to be an old station ID between songs here

The original stream appears to be hosted from Chicago based on IP to location - on a super sketchy steaming site and posted on a Milwaukee thread on a pirate radio forum which I'm guessing isn't allowed to be listed here. It doesn't have any direct station ownership and the original stream appears to give credit to the stations owners but doesn't seem legitimate and my stream is relayed icecast stream, the actual stream for this I highly doubt can be posted here. Its got so many sketchy ads and related to pirate radio probably can't be posted here.

i loved the original polka stream but the sketchy ads and the insanely strange popups were enough for me to find out the stream information and setup a relayed ice cast stream.

The original stream uses username WirelessVirus a quick search does not turn up any reliable sources but there is one reference to a former pirate station called Wireless Virus in 2000s from Milwaukee but I think I landed up in a super deep rabbit hole when it comes to finding historical formats, there's even a WNBC 66 stream in the pirate radio new York thread. WFAN I believe is 66 since the 80s

So you still "found" a link that you provide... I don't know legality of pirating someone else's stream so yeah that probably isn't permitted.
