First Dallas buys KMAD-FM

Wonder how far KCBI will eventually expand its coverage? Houston’s KHCB has established a widespread network of stations for both its English and Spanish language religious programming.

guess this is market that just now lost rock music as a whole, looks like Sirius XM, Spotify, Pandora and radio streaming apps like iHeartRadio, TuneIn & Audacy are gonna get a boost from those in the Texoma market for their rock station fix. maybe the Dallas rock stations get more listeners in the northern half of North Texas and the OKC area rock stations gain a increase of listeners too in the Oklahoma half.

I'd rule out KPYK, but hey, they did buy KAAM. If FDM is looking to expand eastward, perhaps Encouragement would deal them 94.3 KZWL. It has been bobbing in the water, all by its lonesome, since 95.3 was broken off from the simulcast to be hooked up with 91.3 KGLY Lift Worship.

It's not a great signal north and east of Tyler, but coverage from Palestine to south Tyler and J'ville is. It was built to extend 103.1's signal for "Kompa", but since it was separated from KMPA (KHFZ now), it's seemingly been a small sailboat without any wind blowing. I really don't know what else you could really do with it, other than religious, given its limitations.

FWIW, the last time Sherman/Denison was rated (eight years ago by Eastlan), KMAD was leading the market.

It is interesting that the asset purchase agreement calls for the KMAD calls and intellectual property to stay with Connoisseur. Granted, First doesn’t want them since they will flip it to a non-commercial relay of KCBI-FM, so it is interesting it is written into the agreement.

Wonder if Connoisseur has plans to repurpose the KMAD intellectual property?

Doesn't NTRG, who owns the AM in Madill, have a say in that? 1550 is the original holder of the K-MAD call, is it not?

The asset purchase agreement calls for the KMAD calls and intellectual property to stay with Connoisseur. This gives them the opportunity to change one of their stations to the KMAD format. KMAD AM has no say in this as the FCC owns the call letters.

There will be a large segment of Grayson County and Southern Oklahoma that will be very upset at this announcement. It's amazing the number of businesses that are playing KMAD when you walk in. Almost as many as K LAKE. It will be interesting to see the ratings six months after this change.

As Huff mentioned this morning, there aren't any current ratings surveys being conducted in this market.
I suppose it is possible it becomes rated again, with a growing population in the area, but that seems unlikely.

Yes, but 1550 had them first. Correct me if I'm wrong, Bill, but wouldn't you need Dick Witkovski's blessing to reuse them on another FM, that didn't start its life in Madill, Oklahoma? 102.5 was the FM side to 1550, once upon a time, and the calls simply remained in the move to Whitesboro.

Not that 1550 is doing anything worthwhile to need usage of those calls, but KMAD does, originally, belong to the facility.

Why is he running 3ABN on 1550?(but its affiliate with a texas group that runs 3ABN, its not 3ABN itself, per se. Thats a snoozefest.

Did he buy it just so he could eliminate it if needed to advance his festering 1540?

I couldn't tell you, partner. I guess it's being leased from NTRG. 3ABN has a couple of these broadcasts scattered around north Texas, the closest to me being KETE in Sulphur Bluff.

No, SRG, he bought the AM in Madill from Keystone quite awhile before he acquired what's now KAMM in the Metroplex. He's owned 1550 for at least a decade. KMAD has a translator tied to it, so it's actually got a leg up on KAMM.

I don't believe 1540 will ever be restored to what it was. At 32kW, with the big lobe aimed right at ETX, 1540 was just as good in Tyler as KTXV is at 890. You wouldn't think it, being that high up the dial, but 1540 really got out. It's likely to be diplexed on a single tower, reduced to flea power, and a translator purchased and attached to it.

Whether or not it's Dick Witkovski who accomplishes that feat is anyone's guess. He's really done nothing for it, to this point, other than keeping the license alive with the wattage of a standard light bulb in University Park.
