Bloomington/Peoria 1290 WIRL expected to go silent.

Reportedly Midwest Communications is running spots on air that they are taking WIRL silent on March 31st. Beginning on March 23rd, they are dropping the talk simulcast of 95.9 and doing a week of memories related to the station.

Apparently the AM has not been viable for some time. The 95.9 translator (W240DM) is being fed by the HD2 of co-owned WPBG on 93.3 (which, for all I know, may even be the origination for WIRL).

Midwest in the past hasn't been shy in turning in AM licenses so we'll see if they file a remain silent app or just cancel it altogether.

pretty sure the talent signing it off is also their chief engineer

That is very possible. Reckon what better guy to do it, than the one who knows how to flip the switch?

He was a dj back in the day too, if youd read the article.
