KERN is operating from an aux site at reduced power.
AGM California, Inc. (“AGM”), licensee of commercial radio broadcast station KERN(AM), Wasco-Greenacres, CA, Facility ID 35899 (the “Station”), pursuant to Section 73.1635 of the FCC’s rules, hereby requests special temporary authority (“STA”) for a period of 180 days for the Station to operate at reduced power from a temporary site to continue to serve the public.
On October 3, 2025, it was discovered that the Station’s transmitter facilities had been vandalized. Extensive damage was discovered including to the copper grounding system, AM network tuning network and tower. The extent of the Station’s vandalism has made it impossible for AGM to broadcast from the Station’s current facilities. A police report has been made regarding the incident with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, report #2025-00126355. These circumstances constitute extraordinary circumstances which warrant STA to operate with reduced power from the proposed temporary site.
The STA hereby requested is for the Station to operate at 0.75kw ERP with an Isotron 4400HP antenna on a pole at a site located at 35° 24' 55" N, 119° 14' 04" W and with an antenna height above ground level of approximately 25 feet. The Station’s 2 mV/m contour when operating with the temporary facilities will be contained within the Station’s licensed 2mV/m contour.
