Congratulations to K.M. Richards

I also congratulate @K.M. Richards for getting this gig. Unfortunately, Salt Lake City has had little success with oldies stations over the last 20 or so years beginning with the 1060 outlet that went Chinese to the 1580 station (licensed just south of Provo) which became Spanish Christian about five or six years ago, if memory serves. Still, Utah in general and the Salt Lake City area in particular does have a population that is a little older than the national average so we'll see how all of this works out. Good luck to all involved!

The success of an oldies station is not measured in ratings, as it's revenue source is almost purely local direct advertisers. In this case, Don Davis is one of those local broadcasters who knows how to serve and service that part of the local business community. I certainly predict success for this effort.

We have to remember that there are plenty of local direct accounts that do value customers over the age of 55. Those range from car dealers to medical service providers to home maintenance companies to investment and banking services; in particular, the kind of businesses you won't find in a mall or big box shopping center.

An AM with no translator near the top of the dial? OK, 1550 is better than 1230 or 1340, but still, what kind of audience can such a station hope to attract? For sure, most of the listeners will be over 55, but will there be enough of them to produce results for the advertisers and keep those advertisers on board?

K.M. I'm enjoying the music mix on 1550. I hope you guys can snare a translator.
i was actually surprised you didn't get the 80s channel on KOSL. But the oldies sounds good, and your mix is great although i could do without the 50s. it just sounds so out of place. i wonder if KOSL is "chimp approved."

No likelihood for a translator. The market's full (so no new ones) and I don't see any of the existing translators wanting to sell out.

While Barry and Don both like the KRKE format as much as I do, we didn't think it would be competitive on AM against KODJ.

I have mostly restricted pre-1964 songs to the "Super Classic" feature, I will do some tweaking after we've been on the air for a while. As you might guess, there is a lot less research available for me to access for this format.

Since he hasn't posted yet, I presume the Chimp isn't aware of us.

BTW, as I posted in the other thread about KOSL, if you are accessing the stream in any way other than the redirect from the station domain name, please do not bookmark it. It is an internal stream from the mod monitor as a "confidence check" that the transmitter is still on, and the numeric IP address will change once we replace the feed to the domain name with a commercially-available service.

Best of luck. Though I have no idea who this guy is, I hope he can find some listeners and find itself in the ratings!

I think, given my notoriety around here, this is the first time I've ever seen someone say that.

Thank you for the good luck wishes.

And if not that, the golden oldies of the 1920s!

Much luck, my friend. If you need a morning guy with the authentic Good Guy sound of Jewish New York for Mormon land, you know where to find me. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
