Byron Allen gets the Colbert timeslot

i can't remember (or find) details, but wasn't there a time-travel gag about byron allen? i was thinking it was in back to the future (during the alternate time-line discussion) but i must be wrong. but somewhere, it seems to me there was a gag about byron allen being something big in the future because of messing with the time-line.

I’ve never watched the 12:35 show that is moving to 11:35. Do they do political humor? Aka will our President still be pissed about the content of CBS’s late night programming?

Now? Not really in the same universe as Kimmel/Colbert and the show originally ended back in roughly 2016 so, now it’ll be a mix of old and new. Mostly depends on what a given comic does in their routines. But it won’t be anything on par with what has been on Colbert.

So little money is made by the locals after the late news that this move, despite what are guaranteed to be lower ratings, probably won't be worth a protest.

That said, if enough of Colbert's audience defaults to Kimmel, that could be a nice, if small, uptick in revenue for the ABC affiliates (I just don't see much of an audience crossover between Stephen's and Fall

I had a hospital stay in October and watched a few episodes out of boredom. Nothing political or dated as I recall.

A return to CBS Late Night with reruns of the original Hawaii Five-O (aka McGarrett), Magnum PI, The Night Stalker and Barnaby Jones would be an improvement.

CBS Late Night - McGarrett

CBS Late Night - The Night Stalker
Repeat after me: It is April 6th, 2026. Not April 6th, 1986. CBS Late Night won't have a snowball's chance of ever coming back. It's about the same chances of CBS replacing Let's Make a Deal with a revival of Guiding Light.
The CBS Late Movie was an awesome showcase in the '70s, with B-movies and horror/sci-fi fare that easily competed against Johnny Carson. But there's Rokus, Netflix, YouTube, etc. now. Way too much competition.

It was meant as a joke. The humor is gone from this site.

In my highly uninformed opinion, I think the affiliates will drift away, opting to run other syndicated programming in that 11:35 slot, maybe even rerunning shows they already have the rights to (e.g., Jeopardy + Wheel of Fortune) a second time. At least then they get to sell most of their inventory themselves, rather than the dregs of the network hour. They may wait a month or three to see how Byron does in that slot, but by the start of the new season a significant percentage of the affiliates will be off doing their own thing. (If they're contractually forced to air CBS's feed, I suspect it will be at a later hour, maybe the same 12:35 he's already airing at.)
Local television gets very little revenue late at night, except, and some markets, for the late local news. Even then, local news is often sold in a package covering morning news afternoon and evening

We are seeing considerable consolidation in television at the local station level. Multiple stations are sharing the same newsroom and sales is done in packages, including several stations.

The non-news programming in late nights does not appear to produce significant local revenue. Running network shows where “bonus spots“ for daytime schedules can be dropped in is a lot cheaper than buying syndicated shows or paying for a second run of one a station already has. Obviously, there are some markets where there is still some money in late nights, but outside of the largest ones those hours are not profitable.

A bear walks into a bar in New York city.

Bartender says "What'll ya have?"

Bear says "I'm in New York for the first time. How about a Manhattan?"

Bartender makes the drink, brings it to the bear and says "That'll be thirty bucks".

The bear gives him two 20s.

The bartender comes back with a ten and says:

"Y'know, we don't get many bears in here."

And the bear says:

"At thirty bucks a drink, I'm not surprised."

Bear with me for a moment...

You need to test that joke out in Italy. See if you escape with your Milano intact.

(And BTW, hope you have a safe and delightful trip. Watch out for stray Iranian drones. Look forward to seeing you in Alameda after you get back, now that my "glow" has largely worn off.)
