Birmingham Elijah Radio seeks major expansion in Birmingham

Elijah Radio is seeking to upgrade 88.1 WSJL Bessemer to a directional class C1 from its current directional class A signal. I first learned of this move from Alabama Broadcast Media Page and looking over the application now. Sister station 88.1 Argo would surrender their licence to allow the expansion. The new WSJL would provide great coverage of Tuscaloosa into Birmingham and 89.1 WCJL Margaret would serve east Birmingham until the original 100.1 WIJL Anniston takes over providing great coverage along I-20 in northern Alabama.

I don't think there's any room for them to upgrade due to the proximity of WKNG in Heflin, but I could be wrong.

I thought WKNG was off the air or am I thinking of somewhere else? Oh and here's the info from RI.

Elijah Radio seeks to upgrade Christian Preaching 88.1 WSJL Bessemer AL from a Class A to C1 where it will fully cover Birmingham with 7.9kW/664.8m.

If they're off the air, they never filled anything with the FCC. Regardless, even if they're off, they're still licensed and thus an impediment to any upgrades.

Gotcha. I believe I saw somewhere, they were off the air. Maybe it was another station in the same town, possible.

It appears that Elijah Radio has amended the permit and will not relocate to the Tuscaloosa tall tower, instead they will remain at their current site with the same power and only drop the directional antenna. That CP was granted this week.
what about they relocate Birmingham and upgrade to more signal..?, so they won't used multiple fm frequency

Elijah Radio has already agreed to surrender the license for WKRE 88.1 licensed to Argo once the WSJL app was approved. As far as moving the xmtr to Birmingham, there are other stations to consider that would prohibit such a move, one being WLJR at 88.5.

when will their WIJL 100.1 in east alabama stop interfering "x100.1"?

X-100.1 is a Translator. They're a rebroadcast of a HD channel. By law, the full powered signal, from the Anniston area, has top priority over them.

Yes. FM translators are considered secondary service. WIJL is primary service.
