WABC - What happened to Lionel, 2-5 am weekends

According to the schedule page of WABC’s website, Lionel is back on WABC on weekend overnights. Walter Sterling/Walt Sabo has taken over Lionel’s former slot as host of “The Other Side of Midnight”. 1-5AM Monday-Friday.

I just noticed that myself tuning into KMOX expecting to hear Linal. Wonder why the sudden change.

I caught the change on Sun/Mon morning and it didn't seem like anybody talked about it. So...i just figured it was a spring vaca. But i guess that's not the case. I'll try to catch the show tomorrow morning.

So he's gone (WABC) from 5d - 20 hours a week to two days - 6 hours a week. I'm assuming he signed a one year deal last spring. So will he be there (770) in June? He didn't say anything about his different hours in the time I listened. He was discussing people who are missing in research science, that are 'gone' and presumed dead.

Good decision by WABC. Heard him for the first time last night. Walt sounds pretty good. Noory is talented but I’m not into UFOs and ESP. Red Eye keeps getting worse and is now unlistenable. Eric is good, but Gary is awful.

I like it when Walter shuts people down when they try to talk politics..." How about we talk about what's really important to you, how was your day, what's going in your life ..because that's what really matters". I love it!

I still wouldn’t listen to him again. I don’t care how someone’s day in Anytown was, sorry not sorry. This show sounds like the Delilah show, but with a guy hosting and no music.

Coast to Coast really discusses the news the first hour even if you listen to Art Bell archives. I never liked George Noory, but it would be better if they just did paranormal stuff.

I think because Art Bell did a news roundup at the beginning of Coast to Coast AM, Noory keeps the same format. It's not an hour of news, more like 20+ minutes. He gets to the main topic after that. But I agree, we don't need a news roundup, especially since Noory seems to invite conservative talking points "reporters". Since iHeart has its own news department, staffing its 24/7 news service, I wonder why Noory doesn't use them?

He also has Dr. Sky sometimes do an astrology report. And coincidentally, Dr. Sky hosts a show on WABC from 12 to 2 a.m. early Saturday and Sunday. And he's followed by Lionel, getting back to the OP.

But I don't think Lionel's weekend show is syndicated. I believe it's only on WABC. So give credit to WABC for doing a live, local radio talk show overnight on weekends, the only station that still does. There are a couple of sports stations (WFAN, WIP-FM) and a few all-news stations (WINS, WTOP, KNX-KCBS) that have live, local overnight programming. But Lionel on WABC weekends is the only live local non-syndicated radio talk show.

I haven't listened to Noory in a while and I've listened to some of Art Bell's archives, and I've heard episodes when the topic isn't paranormal after the news.

I was awake enough last night to hear about 20 minutes of Lionel’s show.

He took two calls, about 10 minutes each, and interrupted the callers about every 15 seconds asking them about some term they used instead of letting them complete their thought or ask a question. It was awful talk radio, IMO.

I rremember Lionel from the O.J. Simpson days when he did a conservative leaning show. Then for a time he became a flaming liberal, and now he's all over the place.

The fact that Lionel was removed from hosting weekdays speaks volumes about his lack of likeability with listeners.

I don't have an X account, nor do I want one. In a nutshell do you know what he was spouting?

As Invidious is to Youtube, there is an open source web front end substitution project for Twitter/X called Nitter.

If you don't have a Twitter account and see a link like the one above, simply change the "x.com" domain name portion to any Nitter node's domain name. Three currently working examples: xcancel.com, nitter.poast, org, and nitter.privacyredirect.com.

For instance:
