The Old WGOS Crew

I'm gonna start this thread, with a list of the personalities (as in DJs) I heard over the years, on the old WGOS, AM 107. I'll provide the names as I remember them and y'all please reply with your thoughts/memories of said folk. I believe at least or most :D) three of these migrated from the old WTNC, but I remember hearing them on 'GOS and I'm rambling now LOL. I'll come back later and provide my own commentary, but I'd like to hear what y'all have to say, so please chime in. I'll try to go by shifts, so here ya go.

Max Parrish
D.W. Long
John Maudy (sp)
Hollywood Gary D. (the man with the big, pop, blue eyes)
Bob The Music Man (McCormick)
The Bad Boys
Chuck Amada (sp)
Vivian

Oh, if there's anybody I forgot, please supply their name(s) and thoughts/memories, too.

I've heard of him.

Yeah, most folk who know anything about Greensboro radio back in the day, have. I first heard him on WKEW, doing Mornings with Jannett Jones (I believe her last name was Nixon), Jim Prichard (can't remember how to spell or even say his last name) and others, from 6-10. Remember any of the others from the previous post?

I don't really remember much about WGOS and I know no one on that list.

I remember the station playing standards at one point, but only certain hours.

Roger on that. Speaking of I remember, I actually remember Dusty Dunn from another place before 'KEW. It was the old Big102, the short-lived WBIG at 102.1, which was the former WWMO. 'BIG wasn't quite sure what they were for a short while, then settled on Country, until it's demise. I believe Dusty worked there all the time it was on 102 and of course, even before that, when 'BIG was at 1470. He worked a lot of places over the years, to make the understatement of the week LOL. Re: 'GOS playing Standards, if you're referring to Big Band, Chuck Amada (sp) did the Big Band Bash on Sunday morning for a couple hours, between church broadcasts and the airing of a Sunday morning service live from somewhere, never knew where that was. I believe Chuck also worked at 'KEW, can't remember when that was though.

Yeah, I remember Big 102. They were trying to be what the AM station had been and mixed pop and country. And they had the robot voice counting down and saying "It's big and it's coming", or something like that.

I went back to a former church a few years later and had to tell my former Sunday School teacher that the Southern gospel station he used to listen to while traveling and switched to rap.

What I heard was in the afternoon on a weekday. The only song I remember specifically was "Canadian Sunset" by Andy Williams. I always preferred Hugo Winterhalter's version. There may have been rock and roll oldies.

Yeah, that's the one.

Yeah, I remember you telling me that, somewhere else up here. :D)

That may have been when Hollywood Gary D (the man with the big, pop, blue eyes) was manning the controls. He worked Afternoon Drive (actually came at 4 until reckon signoff) and played mostly Rock 'N' Role Oldies. To jog memories (even mine LOL), Max Parrish and Vivian worked Mornings at different times, D.W. Long and John Maudy did middays, Bob The Music Man (McCormick) did Weekends later, with The Bad Boys earlier years doing Saturday AFternoons and Chuck Amada doing Sunday mornings. I believe Bob did Sunday afternoon for a while, too. While I'm here, if anybody else (including Chimp LOL) has any memories of this crew, please feel free to chime in.
