Audacy To Launch 97.1 The Fan Los Angeles

Audacy will launch Sports "97.1 The Fan" KNX-FM Los Angeles on Monday, May 11 at 6am as its News programming remains on 1070 KNX.

This will also be most likely the Rams new flagship station. They are promising more local content. We will see who they hire.

Wow, me either. Taking a Top 5 station and flipping it to sports is unprecedented.

Especially when they currently have no local sports hosts available.

I guess that solves the problem of how to replace CBS News Radio.

For us in Houston it should add to the speculation of Audacy launching a simulcast of their AM sportstalker (KILT 610) on an FM, as it is one of only two markets where an Audacy sports format is currently stranded on AM (Sacramento is the other.) Seems getting sports on FM is a top priority for Audacy.

I wonder if this is being done because iHeart was considering moving KLAC to FM. That would make the Dodgers very happy.

In fact RadioInk originally reported the call letters of 97.1 as "KLAC-FM." It has since corrected it.

Audacy can also see the demos, and knows that the KNX audience is mainly over 55.

I'd expect 97.1 The Fan to be the FM home of Rams games for the upcoming season replacing Jack FM 93.1.

And a lot of the news and sports audience doesn’t listen to music on the radio, as there is nothing of interest among the available format genres.

Much of the music audience is gone, and broadcasters are moving towards more spoken word content.

Kansas City is another, with 1660 KWOD The Bet limited to AM only. I hope they flip 96.5 KFNZ’s HD2 to a KWOD simulcast. Right now 96.5 KFNZ HD2 is the same programming as 96.5 KFNZ HD1.

IIRC KWOD is all network content. The two AM station distinction is for locally originated sportstalk.
