They preempted that for this?

Thanks for the info, I haven't been up there in a long time. In Bowman there are relaying antennas (I don't know the actual word for them) on a butte that I think were put up in the 50's according to one of my relatives. I don't know what stations they were or are for. This would have been around 1957 because I still have the 1957 Sylvania Halolite my relative watched the stations on. I know one of them was a CBS affiliate, because he said he always liked watching Captain Kangaroo.
KDIX (now KXMA) in Dickinson has always been CBS, so it was probably that station. A lot of places also had translators for KFYR from Bismarck to get NBC, since Dickinson didn't have full powered NBC until 1980. I remember seeing that at one time Marmarth had a translator for one of the Lead, SD (Rapid City) stations, so pulling those in was possible also.

Did any of the Montana tv stations get that far back then, or not?

Glendive's station started in the late 50s, but I have not ever seen any listings of North Dakota translators for that one.

I did find a listing for Bowman's translators in the TV Factbook 2 for 1967
Link here if you want to view it, it is on page 225-a:

Bowman had two translators, one for KDSJ in Lead, SD and another for KFYR in Bismarck.
KDIX should have been available in Bowman without a translator, its signal reached down into South Dakota in the analog days.

It was the same way on WHO 13 an NBC affiliate as well.
What about CBS and ABC?
We have our answer.

This shows CBS covered the incident for two hours, and ABC and NBC for a half hour after the NBA playoff games each was airing.

Apparently in Connecticut the free-to-air Mets games are on WTNH 8/ABC owned by Nexstar.

The night the space shuttle came back WTNH was airing the game while Jepordy, AzBC News coverage of the space shuttle, and ABC programming aired on sister station WCTX/59 blowing out 2 episodes of Judge Judy reruns 7PM-8PM and the news at 8PM

Meanwhile a recent afternoon game pn WTNH blew out their 4PM News.

Will KCTV air any home Tigers-Royals games this season? And on those nights, will CBS programming during the game be bumped to KSMO?

That will make Tiger fans visiting KC feel at home, at least for one night.
yes they are according to the schedule (although all say KCTV yet they say some will be on KSMO also or by itself)
Next one is May 22

This Tuesday the MN Twins are on broadcast TV. Pre-emptions (well just moving programming). Game is from 6:30-10pm with postgame
KEYC-DT2 FOX 12.2 Mankato moves Farmer Wants a Wife and Bear Grylls is Running Wild to 10 & 11PM
KXLT FOX 47 Rochester same thing
KVLY-DT2 CBS 11.2 Fargo moves NCIS programming (NCIS, NCIS Origins and NCIS Sydney) starting at 12:36AM
KBJR-DT2 CBS 6.2 Duluth same thing as Fargo. Moves programming to after the national programming is done. Normally they would have it on KBJR-DT3 which is a sports station but they are carrying the Milwaukee Brewers game on there (Duluth is part of the Milwaukee Brewers "area")
KMSP FOX 9.1 Minneapolis moves programming to 10:35 at the earliest. Most other markets cut the postgame at 10pm to "keep on track" with programming. FOX 9 doesn't.
KYOU FOX 15 Ottumwa, IA moves FOX programming to 10:30 after news
FOX Western North Dakota (KFYR-DT2, KMOT-DT2, KUMV-DT2 and KQCD-DT2) same thing as other FOX stations. FOX programming will be on at 10PM
Other than KMSP which is a O&O, the rest are Gray owned stations

Surprised that KYOU is getting a Twins game--you would think that as far as American League teams are concerned, Kirksville/Ottumwa DMA would have more people saying that the Royals are "my American League team" instead of the Twins if they had to choose both a favorite AL and NL team (with the latter much more Cardinal fans in that DMA than Cubs).

There are some other Iowa markets that get it too but tv listings don't usually show it. Iowa is "claimed" by SIX teams (Twins, Brewers, Cubs, Sox, Cards and Royals). Iowa is part of Twins Territory along with the Dakotas and Western Wisconsin(the Minneapolis DMA). I know the Quad Cities get the Twins games OTA

What Gray Media Stations are carrying these 10 Over-The-Air Games?
  • Rochester, MN – KXLT (FOX), KTTC (NBC and CW)
  • Duluth, MN – KDLH (CW), KBJR (NBC)
  • Mankato, MN – KEYC (Fox), KMNF (MyNet)
  • Fargo, ND – KXJB (CW), KVLY (MeTV)
  • Minot/Bismarck, ND – KFYR (Fox)
  • Rapid City, SD – KEVN (Fox)
  • Sioux Falls, SD – KDLT (Fox)
  • Cedar Rapids, IA – KCRG (ABC and CW)
  • Davenport, IA – KWQC (Cozi)
  • Ottumwa, IA – KYOU (Fox)
  • Sioux City, IA - KTIV (NBC)

KBJR-DT3 CBS 6.3 Duluth doesn’t preempt anything as it is on ‘Northstar Sports Network’. It’s also on NSN in Rochester and Mankato.

This Thursday in Mankato KMNF channel 7-1 (NBC) is carrying the MN Republican Governor Primary Debate from 7-9. This pushes Law and Order & Law and Order SVU to 12:37am after the late shows

Tonight's D'backs home game against the Rockies is being simulcasted by KPNX (NBC/Phoenix) moving tonight's primetime lineup of 2 Law and Order episodes & The Hunting Party to after Seth Meyers. Usually, the simulcasts KPNX has of D'backs games are on Fridays, but obviously due to Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Finals, it's moved up to tonight (D'backs website last week had tomorrow's game on 12News, but has been updated to D'backs.tv only). Clearly, simulcasting because MLB thinks D'backs/Rockies is a rivalry, which it is in terms of division NL West, but doesn't really feel like one.

Wait. If the show is airing at another time. I don't think that's considered a pre-emptipn.

Those are long gone. Programming just gets moved to late night or a subchannel which is what the last.....oh......how many pages here have mentioned. Heck even in the above MN Twins pre-emptions on some Tuesdays for ballgames on local TV I write "Pre-emptions (well just moving programming)."
