99X Dropped from 99.7 HD-2 and 98.9 FM

Looks like 99X is now only on 100.5. OG 97.9 took over both 99.7 HD-2 and 98.9. I saw a social media post with an AI announcer telling the whole world 99X is on 100.5. OG 97.9 is saying it is all over town now. I still don’t understand this move. 98.9 and 97.9 overlap the same exact area. Need to put something else on 98.9.

DUMB. Just change the parent station for the 98.9 translator. Not sure why you would remove 99X from 99.7's HD2. Seems really stupid for people who wanna listen to that station via the stronger 99.7 HD2 signal over 100.5 and the HD cutting out on the fringes.

Maybe I'm losing my mind - It's been a day/week/month - YEAR - But, doesn't 99.7 have a 3rd HD signal and OG was in that slot?
Yes and OG is on both 99.7 HD-2 (rebroadcasting on 98.9 FM) and 99.7 HD-3 (rebroadcasting on 97.9 FM). OG was only on 99.7 HD-3 before. 99X is only on 100.5 FM now.

Yeah, that can't be permanent. Something is up. I can understand removing from 98.9 but I don't get removing it from one of the HD channels so that OG can literally be duplicated between HD2 and HD3.

99X is only on 100.5 FM now.
I'll do it:

Could 99X's days be limited?* I thought they were doing good in the money demos. Of course, nothing Cumulus does would surprise me.

Pure speculation: If I was calling the shots, I would "sell" 98.9 (to couple with 96.7) to iHeart in return for iHeart downgrading WSSL so 100.5 WNNX could go C1. I have heard the rumors that there was supposed to be some kind of agreement between 106.5 in Chattanooga and 106.7 (Gainesville) Atlanta last century when 106.7 was on the 97.1 tower, but I can't confirm it.

* IMHO without a FM translator HD2, 3, (and whatever you can compress in that sideband) are not viable. Wasn't there an article about GM dropping HD from their cars next year?

Hard to believe programming and engineering are really broadcasting the same content via the HD2 and HD3 on the same frequency. I mean... what's playing on 101.5's HD2? Anything? Pretty stupid if 101.5 is in HD and not running something on the "2".

IMHO If the FM translators weren't there there would be no reason for HD 2, 3. 4.

They already have the investment in HD equipment. Might as well put something on them.

One day most car radios will have the technology to search for the best signal HD whatever on any signal or the analog. My son's TV uses 11.11 (which is really a sub channel of 36) instead of 11.1.

Most do already through RDS. Except that in the US, there's very few networks that need it as opposed to internationally.

It might be the the fact that my only exposure to HD radio is whatever Avis or Budget rents me. The Madza and Chevy radios might be OK it you had a week to figure out the controls. I did get a Ford explorer once that the radio wasn't all that different from my Flex.

And now we know the rest of the story as to why 97.9 and 98.9 have been simulcasting...

97.9 is being sold to Radio Training Network along with stations in Florence SC and Huntsville AL.

-Good Day

97.9 is being sold
if YOU owned 97.9 (250 watts) and 98.9 (144 watts) why would you sell 97.9?
sure, i understand willing seller, willing buyer. but i'd have wanted to keep the better signal. and 97.9 appears to win that contest.
is there something i'm missing?

My guess is that 97.9 fills a hole in RTN’s broast map.

Thats what I’m saying! OG 97.9 is having its 2nd annual concert series “OG Fest” here in Fayetteville and even the signal fades down here. 98.9 is even worse. Overall, I enjoy OG 97.9.

The powers that be at iHeart should or could respond and flip 96.7 to its classic hip-hop format, “Throwbacks 96.7” to fill that south and southwest void but thats just my little ol’ opinion. That could compliment and combo sell 96.1 The Beat I guess?

I suppose the answer is it takes 2 to tango. Cumulus needs money, and I’m not sure anyone would want 98.9, at least for any significant amount of money.

Ever since WVFJ/93.3 built that huge tower in the late 90’s, they’ve desperately been trying to be an Atlanta station. They even made their signal more directional toward Atlanta. But that tower is just too far away.

97.9’s signal seems unusually good for a translator, just about analogous to a Class A. Acquiring it should be a boost to The Joy FM though it will be jumping into a highly competitive environment.

I agree that such a format would be a good use of 96.7, or for that matter, 105.3.

Yes, a highly competitive environment, but Joy sounds much more “local” than K-Love and its playlist and tone is much more similar to The Fish.
