WYRV-AM (770) Cedar Bluff, VA on at night, interfering with WABC

WYRV is back at it, with a new classic country format billed as "95.1 Kat Country." They're simulcasting with their AM on 770, leaving it on at night, and it's butting heads with WABC (at times, overpowering them) here in Central Virginia. How are they getting away with this?

Have you tried reaching out to them? Good chance they don’t know the AM transmitter isn’t turning off at night.

Yes, I have sent emails to WYRV and to WABC. No reply from either. I just checked the ol' radio and WYRV is still on. I'm going to try and call them in the morning.

what time are you hearing them? is it possibly PSSA? didn't EVERY AM get that without even applying? up to two hours after local sunset, which could be pretty late in may

Contact information for WYRV is just about non-existent. No direct line to the station. All I see is a number in Statesville, NC.

After reading of recent-times purchases of unlikely stations plus one recent tire kick of a station way outside WABC's coverage I have to ask if WYRV is actually saying 'Cats country'.🧐

Oh yeah, they are coming in pretty well on the Roanoke SDR and totally overriding WABC. I am not hearing it on my regular radio here in suburban Columbus, Ohio.

I'm thinking they may be under new ownership/management with a new format. Might have even just signed back on very recently, because up until about 4 nights ago, WABC was blasting in here unobstructed. Now, WYRV is just about knocking them off the map.

Noticing WYRV underneath WABC on the Edinburgh IN SDR. Definitely not doing what they are supposed to do (protect WABC and sign-off at sunset).
Also, *very* obviously AI-generated logo on their website.

They're listed as silent

are they supposed to alert the FCC when they go back on air? Do they have a grace period when going back on air?

Since this is the DX forum I checked 770 in central MD, very solid WABC for the 10 minutes I listened. Not even a trace of the country music, must be skipping over me. Hope they get it sorted out.

I also checked it a little after 1AM last night here in central VA. WYRV was gone, and the WABC signal was unobstructed. Maybe the WYRV signal was shut off around 1AM.

I believe that's where the owner is. I suggest calling that number and talk to whoever answers, then explain your concern.

Yep, I'd say that's the case.
