WLEV 100.7 sounding local 77 miles away

Not my greatest catch and a who cares/big deal for most, but it sounds like it’s broadcasting from next door - Allentown PA to Trenton NJ. Parked in driveway. Now let’s watch it fade away as I start driving. :)

That reminds me of when I was living in South Jersey and could hear 790 WAEB AM from Allentown very late in the afternoon around sunset if the local WTMR Camden on 800 signed off before WAEB switched it's directional pattern.

Then when I went to Moravian College, it was nice to hear WAEB as a local and it didn't have any splatter on WABC at night.

WTMR Camden is now on 24 hours, so WAEB can't be heard anymore where I used to live.

Actually Allentown to Trenton is not that far. All the Class B Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton FM stations should be good on a car radio in Trenton, 95.1 WZZO, 96.1 WCTO, 99.9 WODE, 100.7 WLEV and 104.1 WAEB-FM. Just under 50 miles as the crow flies. Driving would be longer.

But the terrain between Allentown and Trenton is very hilly, especially the big one just across the Lehigh River that runs through Bethlehem and Allentown that's between 900 and 1000 feet in many spots.

I would guess that WLEV would be audible in Trenton but weak and not a good signal under normal conditions.

As soon as I was on my way, the station faded quickly-I could barely hear it. But from what I was hearing it sounded very “hot AC” with songs like “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence. As far as I knew they always sounded more or less “light pop/rock” but I c/b wrong.

I remember way back when I was 13 with my parents and they were driving up the Garden Stare Parkway north of Atlantic City right around sunset and I wanted to check the car radio to see what was on certain frequencies including 790 AM.

It was quite a good signal that I assumed was WAEB Allentown because they were playing music but then the station ID came on, it was WFUN from Miami and I was amazed because I was familiar with that station from our vacation down there a couple years earlier.

The signal soon faded and never came back and I think they still hadn't yet switched to their nighttime directional pattern which is why I was able to get it around dusk.

One of my best DXing memories.

I have a 2013 Sirius CM radio in my car. I am dropping SXM due to gas prices nearly doubling. Plan to Bluetooth iHeart when driving. But does anyone know if I could just replace the antenna which isn’t very good. The only stations worth a crap tuning in is 94.5 PST and NJ 101.5 - both I am not fans of and Philly and NYC come in like poop.

Sounds like you are in the perfect spot to hear both NYC and Philly FMs at the same time but not good quality like down at the shore around Toms River and Seaside.

I was always a big fan of New Jersey 101.5 whenever I would visit home and liked to listen to Dennis and Judi.

NJ 101.5 used to simulcast on 93.7 down in Millville and one time on a drive back down to Florida via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel route to avoid the bad traffic around Washington, I could hear their signal on 97.3 on Route 13 all the way down to the Virginia state line.

Also, WFAN and WCBS New York on AM could be heard on the bridge part of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel and then were gone again once I got into Norfolk.
