Thank God for modern news science. Remember when we needed to watch for more than a week to learn if our neighborhood would explode at any minute?

Having read previous posts about infomercials on Saturdays, I've been checking KNX on the Audacy website for the last few hours. It sounds like the news on 1070 AM begins at 11:00 am Pacific on Saturdays.

I'm surprised to see anything from CBS TV being made available to radio.

Audacy has a sales & distribution deal with CBS-TV

Other titles include the audio on-demand versions of CBS television shows such as "60 Minutes;" "CBS Evening News;" "CBS Mornings;” "CBS News Sunday Morning;" "Entertainment Tonight;" "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan;" "Inside Edition;" and "The Drew Barrymore Show."

Audacy had a similar deal with CBS News Radio, but as you know, that deal ended.

Does anyone know why they fell out of favor? I for one, do not miss them. They always seemed to choose the most sensualist, attention getting, and provocative topics.

"Coming up, the 2nd of our 5 part series taking you inside the city's secret swinger's scene with hidden camera!"
I’m not sure. I never really got a clear answer as to why at my current station stopped. I didn’t work here when they did get rid of it. I think the business got too relaxed after covid and let itself go

Then if this is still the case, it sounds dumb that they partnered with ABC. There’s other routes they could’ve taken for a replacement for TOH news. They should’ve used AP

Sweeps stories largely ended because sweeps themselves ended. So deciding that viewership in May was more important than April is no longer a thing.

From the Television Bureau of Advertising web site:
Nielsen retired the diary methodology in July 2018, and all Nielsen local markets are now measured year round. As a result, there are no longer only special “Sweeps” months.

Hmm. I actually had no idea this even happened. But, I worked in a small market at the time. But I just knew one year my news director at the time was heavy on sweeps. Then one year later they never came to us

Yep. Prior to that, there were four books a year: February, May, July and November.

Stations I worked for (1981-2012) did sweeps pieces in February, May and November, but rarely for July, as viewing levels tended to be lower.
