Sports to replace KNX News simulcast at 97.1 FM

I’m kind of glad. I never thought holding off on big stories for only certain months of the year was ever a good idea.

Sweeps pieces were rarely stories that needed to be told immediately. By their nature, they were issues/people/places that you could spend a couple of weeks preparing, shooting and writing (often, mine involved traveling by air for interviews)
and not lose immediacy by the time they aired.

This group is really starting to grow at me. This might be the only one of Audacy’s sports talkers where the hosts aren’t screaming at me and talking aggressively all the time. I hope they don’t change this lineup. Derek could still use coaching. But in all reality he doesn’t have to be there. So not sure how that can be fixed

For me, it's getting there. DMack And Reiter seems to be the only show that's showing actually personality. Also it seems as if they don't have a permanent night host(s) yet but the difference voices have all been pretty good. The midday show is absolutely BRUTAL and the first one I expect will have some changes.

I remember Ann Martin. I was working in L.A. TV news at the time. KCBS lured her (and Jerry Dunphy) away from Ch. 7 with some of the most lucrative anchorman contracts at the time.

AP makes no sense, because they do not offer live radio newscasts 24/7.

Neither does ABC.

However, AP's schedule is even more limited with no weekend newscasts (one update on Sat/Sun from Donna Warner).

What doesn’t make sense is having KNX talent still reading ad spots on the fan. I feel KNX didn’t really change their format but just added sports shows in between news blocks

Sounds to me like a compromise, to retain some revenue for news while building a sports station.

It's not like the news station was a failure. They wanted to be able to have both somehow on one signal.

Not since Dec 2024. The evening anchor records a couple of different newscasts before walking out the door at the end of shift, and they are fed overnight. I believe 2AM, 3AM, and 4AM Eastern are all recorded.

Explains why I heard Wayne Cabot during the 5 p.m. PT hour on KCBS last Sunday and again midnight Monday.
