WABC launches "Worldwide News Network"

here's a post that I think helps support my prediction:

There's a difference between providing a news service and getting radio stations to carry it.

My prediction was that WNN will get carried by some small audience AM stations that mostly carry conservative talk. So far, that's what's happened.

I said this ten days ago:

What's likely to happen is WWN will be on some no-audience AM stations. If it's on 50-60 stations that have no listeners, is that enough of a "nationwide presence" to matter? I think not. But it's more than what he'd get from just the stations in NYC.

I live in Canada but have been listening to WABC since the days when Bob Grant and Joy Behar were on the air with them. Because of my location I could only receive them at night until the early morning. Now we have the internet and I can listen to their daytime programming. Much of it doesn't appeal to me. I enjoyed Frank Morano's the overnight call in talk show. I enjoyed it when Curtis took over. Now it's hosted during the weekdays by Walter Sterling who in my opinion is a much better choice than "Lionel". I recall the first time I heard "Lionel" on WABC years ago and I thought it was an old lady talking. Personally I think it was pretty bad what they did to Curtis Sliwa. WABC used to be known a We're Always Broadcasting Curtis because the guy was always on the air anytime of day. He knew his role was to entertain and could tell a good story. He found a new place at WOR 710.

As for their new "worldwide news network" it's just another vanity project for the owner to push his ideology. Hey it's his radio station so he can do what he wants.

Hardly. WWNN offers a service to help radio stations fill the gap left by the sunset of CBS Radio News. It's a quality product. Time will tell if enough subscribe to make it economically sustainable.

I never said it wasn't a quality product. It sounds professional and well presented. However when they play reports from outlets like "News Nation" it's hardly fair and balanced. Nothing on WABC is except for for the music and overnight shows. If you listen to them knowing this you'll be fine. That being said there are lot of other news outlets that cover the same stories if that's what your interested in.

Youre issing something.. it doesnt have to be ecnomically stable.... Cats is proppin up WABC with his money.. the news network is just an extension of that and his ideology. im disappointed to see a quality news person like Lee Harris join WWNN .. saying WWNN is unbiased is like saying town hall/srn and usa radio network newscasts are unbiased and dont represent a christian right wing pov

It seems they have also hired a news reader with a British accent so I guess that helps with the "worldwide" network aspect.

I stated they are unbiased because I've listened, trying to discern bias, and I cannot. Most content is sourced from NewsNation, whose stated mission is to try to present the news w/o bias. Yes, Cats' has invested into his holding, he's also created opportunities for people in broadcasting.

If you want to dissect some WWNN content and point out the bias to me, I'm happy to consider it. Absent that, I'm just not hearing it. I'm glad WWNN and other products have stepped up to fill the void created by the end of CBS Radio News.

If its not there now, it'll be there at some point when Cats hears something he doesnt like about republicans. This man doesnt do suff just to blow money

Of course. At the same time, there are lots of stories they choose not to cover. Just like everyone else. They're free to make editorial decisions just like other news organizations. If their boss tells them to make the protesters appear more violent, then that's what they do. We can selectively pick stories they do, just like you do with NPR, and show how biased and slanted they are. It doesn't matter. They're allowed to be slanted and biased if that's what they want to be. There are no government rules about that because the government can't pass laws abridging the rights of the press.

Do you have any examples? Not saying they aren't but it's hard to prove a negative.

As I said, I can cherry pick stories that prove my point, such as their reporting on the crime in NYC, but it doesn't matter. They're allowed to report whatever they want in whatever way they choose. Taking reporting out of context to prove a point is a waste of time. But they are not going to report anything positive about the mayor of NYC.
