They preempted that for this?

I was planning my recordings for when I go on vacation next week and "Jeopardy" in Charlotte will be bumped for golf June 19. It said "Wheel" would be there but I doubt that. I have the Greensboro station, though.

Remember that in Charlotte "Jeopardy!" is on first (7 PM) on the NBC affiliate, WCNC, and NBC will probably be in the middle of the U.S. Open at that time. I can't predict whether "Wheel" will get on at 7:30. In Greensboro, however, they are on CBS affiliate WFMY and the timeslots are reversed, so yes, you should be OK. What time and channel are they on where you're going?

WLOS at 7:30, but I'm not going to try to watch. When I don't have a remote that will let me back up, any distraction is too much. Besides, there might be a movie on, and I don't pay extra for those other channels at home.

Due to World Cup being on Fox various times of day, the normal programming is being thrown around depending on when Soccer will be shown. Here in Mankato since Gray owns all 3 networks here (CBS, FOX and NBC. No ABC in market) the syndicated shows normally on are on various nets. Some programming they moved to NBC from 5-6 and 6:30-7 AM. Some get thrown late night at like 2am on Fox. They’ve even moved programming to late night on CBS after the 10:00 news rerun. Good thing they are all reruns.

KDSM Fox 17 in Des Moines is the same way. Depending on the time of soccer Judge Mathis sometimes airs at 9:30 am or 4pm. Two and a Half Men airs at 11am if soccer starts later.

Due to the golf today until 6:30pm Central on NBC, Jeopardy on KMNF-LD moves to late late night at like 2AM...after the rerun of the 10pm news, Flip Side (which is normally on FOX but since soccer is on they moved it to NBC). Gray TV owns all the nets in Mankato (CBS, FOX, NBC) and a 3rd episode of Funny You Should Ask (they show 2 episodes on CBS at 11:35pm M-F).
Dont get why Gray couldn't put Jeopardy at 12:35 after the late shows and pre-empt the news rerun (which is also carried on KEYC CBS at 1235 am after Funny You Should Ask)..oh well. It will record :)

I've noticed lately that local stations have been pre-empting programming for sports a lot more often than they have in the past.

It looked like in the 2000's into the 2010's that practice had mostly stopped because of the increased reach of RSNs made it an unnecessary liability for stations to still carry regional sports but now that RSNs have been gradually going out of business, that combined with national broadcast networks being more dependent than ever on sports broadcasts have brought back steady pre-emptions on many stations across the country.

This is also a likely factor as to why stations have been phasing out syndicated programming in favor of more local newscasts besides just the increased costs and declining ad revenue, because it's generally much easier to bump an hour or two of local news than it is to bump a comparably more expensive syndicated show.

It's been a long time since I can remember them pre-empting anything for sports. KDSM Fox 17 use to do it alot in the 80's & 90's and that when they pre÷emptied the Fox Kids line up it usually aired Saturdays from Noon to 2pm.

WOI ABC 5 use to do it alot in Primetime with their primetime shifting to 11pm-Midnight or as soon as Nightline was over where it aired over 2 nights instead of the full 2 hours they pre-empted.

There's a lot of sports on networks that usually didn't ask for that much network time. Fox and CW are asking for more time than they ever did 10-15-20 years ago. Fox affiliates a mess right now with the World Cup. NBC's are a mess every two years with an Olympics. As someone who's worked MCO at TV stations, don't even get me started with college football.

As for syndicated programming, from a contract standpoint, it's easier to bump an hour of local news but from a revenue standpoint, it's easier to preempt syndication. Every program coordinator at every affiliate though knows what they can bump and what they can't and the broadcast window a show has to air in.

Tomorrow night Tuesday, June 23, is the first night of the NBA Draft and ABC will carry it to affect Jeopardy! And wheel of fortune airing in the West.

KETV here in Omaha has been dead set on airing local specials on July 4th since before this past weekend.
There are 2 specials, the first being “KETV Celebrates America 250”, which might be an almost exact copy of Hearst’s nationally aired America 250 special, which aired on KETV this past Sunday.
The second is “The Riverfront 4th of July Celebration w/ Omaha Symphony” (what a mouthful) (being televised for the first time ever), which is exactly what it sounds like, a short Omaha Symphony concert followed by fireworks, all live from Omaha’s Gene Leahy Mall on The Riverfront.
These 2 specials will cause the culmination of Disney Celebrates America 250, Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash, to not air on KETV’s main sub-channel. It will instead be moved to their .2 sub-channel, which is MeTV. Ironically enough, the pre-show to the Bash will still air on KETV as scheduled.
This makes KETV one of 3 ABC stations where at least PART of Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash will NOT air (WTVD in Raleigh and KTRK in Houston are the others, broadcasting local festive shows (WTVD airs their local show after the Bash’s 1st hour)).
(also, yes I did check every station’s schedule, this took me at least an hour, please help me 😭)

Nobody in Nashville is going to have a local fireworks show on the 4th, WKRN-2 (ABC) will at least get to show the Nashville fireworks as part of Disney's marathon 4th coverage, and WTVF-5 (CBS) is showing a Scripps produced special. WSMV-4 (NBC) has the Macy's fireworks again. WNPT-8 (PBS) has a couple of fireworks specials as well while WZTV-17 (Fox) has World Cup matches.

WKRN did Nashville fireworks in recent years. WZTV has World Cup matches during the day, but tonight, they'll be baseball with them getting Cardinals/Cubs (should be getting Mets/Braves instead). Meanwhile, here in Phoenix, for the 2nd year in row, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks get bumped to late night after 12 News at 10 with KPNX (NBC) airing the D'backs game against the Milwaukee Brewers at 6:40.
