AI PRODUCED JINGLES

At least for now. Companies are now starting to hire human coders to fix problems that AI "vibe coding" has created.
Lots of people think they can code. The hard part is debugging code and making it function correctly, and then efficiently. That's where the challenge is, and not everyone can do that, much less do it well.
 
I actually offer AI radio jingles and my clients have been pretty impressed with them. Especially with the newer iterations of AI modals out there. Those who don't embrace change get left behind. I'd rather be out in front than caught struggling to catch up. Wish I would have learned that and pursued coding in my younger years.

If the commercials for the Upside app weren't scammy enough (heavily advertising it in states where it's not available, and falsely claiming that people spend an average of $5000 a year on gas), they're now using AI-generated voices for their "customer testimonials". But I'm surprised they actually do admit it in the disclaimer at the end of the ad.

LOL. I can't stand, "I'M using the MONEY I saved to PAY for a vaCATION later this YEAR. Totally robotic! Actually I'm glad to know it isn't a human.

OTOH, today I called SXM to get my renewal rate down to where it was. The AI Assistant picked up right away, found my account instantly, said sympathetically, "Oh I can understand how you feel." Then she made me an offer. I said that's still higher than before, so she said, "Wait, how does this sound?"

If I didn't know I swear it was a very friendly, helpful human being. Scary.

The whole thing took about 5 minutes compared with about 20 minutes or more in previous years.

In addition, I'm about 90% certain I heard a weather forecast on KQMA-FM Phillipsburg KS (also via Eskip DX) that was AI generated by a "Blaze Michaels". I can't find a meteorologist Blaze (or Blaize) Michaels anywhere in the U.S. It wasn't the Weathero logy/Paul Trombley "fair skies. Tonight. low 48. Showers likely. Tomorrow..." nonsense.

In the long run, this will hurt the business of radio more than anything else. Yet in Los Angeles, the Latino audience is embracing an AI-generated co-host in the mornings on 97.5 KLYY. 🤦‍♂️

How? Why? The average end user does not care if something is AI generated or voiced by a live human. People spend hours every day watching and listening to AI generated slop on their phones. The technology continues to improve to the point where it is becoming indistinguishable.

It materially lowers costs for those who produce the content in an environment where revenue is not plentiful.

The only people who are really hurt are the ones who depend on VO work to make a living. They, like many people, will need to adapt.
 
What will be faascinating to see is when AI labs start actually charging users a price that makes economic sense, long term. This stuff seems great when it is heavily subsidized and practically free. LLMs will likely always have a place in industry, but I am not sure to the extent we are led to believe by the evangelists.

WEatherlogy is not nonsense and paul tromblay and jennifer, ray.. are real. WE use them at KLMI

Theres a weather service loosely tied to Houstons Gow Media that uses AI voices.. its on the stations we inherited from Appaloosa Broadcasting

It doesn't have the awkward cuts like the Weatherology service...and yes, they are real people too. It's just that Paul and Jennifer Wojcicki's forecasts are stale, pre-recorded phrases only.

I guess Weatherology still offers a regular weather update service as well, as I have heard KKCQ Bagley MN use a Weatherology forecast that didn't pick and choose pre-recorded phrases and sentences. It was similar to a Jennifer Narramore forecast.

AI slop has destroyed TikTok and YouTube, and I agree. I get way more AI commercials than I do regular commercials when I start a video. Like the ones about your stool...and I don't mean the stool you sit on in the garage.

What's that AI weather service called? I'm guessing it's the same one I've heard on KQMA (and also WTBX-FM in Hibbing MN).

i wish i remembered the name of the AI weather service. I don’t.

They’ll do the intro, station same and a quick 2 second mention of the sponsor, the forecast than a 30-60 second spot after from the sponsor .

Dan Holliday and Jenneifer Naramore are great. I had them up at Kiyu Galena AK and with “art ferguson” doing our imaging.

Weatherology is barter and does live weather cut ins unattended for stations

Boomers love to eat up AI slop, but younger generations do notice and care. Millennials saw careless decisions by older generations wreck the economy and job market right around the time they were graduating from college and looking for jobs in the late 2000s, and don't want that to happen again.

Perhaps. But it does not necessarily mean that they'll be aware of, or care about AI produced elements in radio programming (if they're even listening to radio in meaningful numbers).

They may not immediately call up the radio station to complain about it, but if AI-generated commercials are off-putting enough to cause listeners to avoid that product or service, the advertiser will see a lower return on their ads, and may simply stop advertising on radio, eventually hurting the radio station.

Plus, even the best AI voices I've heard, with no obvious signs like awkward pacing and stilted emphasis, generally sound bored and disinterested in whatever they're talking about. That's maybe fine for underwriting announcements on public radio, but when you're trying to sell something, the passion just isn't there, and it is noticeable.

We have a few A.I. "Assisted" pieces of audio on our 4 stations............ i have no about a few of them because the owner would tell me unless i guessed correctly (to mnake a point) and i only know about another because it's my voice who created it. The average listener wont know if done right.
 
I'm glad my 66-year-old mother hasn't discovered the fictional AI stories on YouTube and other sites. She loves 48 Hours, 20/20, Dateline, and anything else that's true crime.

The Weather Flash Radio Network, headed by Mike Sinnot who owns that company, while hes VP of Gow Media, KFNC 97.5 and KGOW 1560 Houston, TX.
