Yacht Rock today

I was listening to SXM Yacht Rock and I kind of thought there were a lot of jazzy style music playing in a row. Herb Albert, George Benson, Bobby Caldwell. Then a sweeper came on with Al Roker saying "This is Yacht Rock Soul Sunday."

Only one little problem. Today is Monday! 😂

Hey, they're already living in the '70s, so what if they're also living in yesterday?

Nobody pays attention to anything anymore. Do you know how many times I've messaged or tried to message the particular SXM channel through social media to tell them about the wrong version of a song that's actually airing? One time it was an instrumental of the tune. Another time, on The Blend, it was some kind of crazy dance mix of the song. Typically, it takes days for a response....if I get one at all. Sound just like corporate terrestrial radio. 🙄

I think they do an hour block of soul in the morning.

And people pay for this?

And people pay for this?
Sure. I live out of market from my favorite MLB team, so being able to stream every game is pretty cool if I’m at work or driving around.

Having MLB Network radio is nice since my local FM Sports station talks NFL almost 24/7.

I also like POTUS, as they present all sides of political issues on most shows.

The music channels, wellllll, I gladly pay for the talk channels.

For some reason, the Sirius XM Yacht Rock channel was doing this on Friday evening too. Just for an hour. But it happened to be an hour I was outside and wanted Yacht Rock.

Someone should tell the programmers, Yacht Rock Soul isn't Yacht Rock. Similar concept, softer R&B songs from the late 70s and early 80s. But I don't know if there's a demand for this. Sirius XM already has a "Heart & Soul" channel, playing R&B hits of the 70s and 80s. Do we need to do a version on the Yacht Rock channel as well? I'm sure the programmers are saying, "We can't keep playing Brandy, Sailing, Southern Cross and What You Won't Do for Love over and over."

Yes. Keep playing them over and over. That's what Yacht Rock listeners want.

To be fair yacht rock is a made up term. It was never a genera.

I would think you could find 500 or so songs that fit the bill well enough, which is not that out of place for a lot of gold libraries. I think the big market "classic hits" station near me has an even smaller rotation. Looking at play history, they're spinning the same tunes 2-3x/day.

There are a ton of tunes that might not be specifically "Yacht Rock" but fit. For example, a lot of the soft rock of that era that's nowhere to be found on the dial.
