Yikes…97.1 😱

It always comes back to laziness of gm's and promotions- Why isnt 97.1 at the games, at the fan gatherings, why dont they have boothes set up handing out stickers or t shirt or anything? Broadcast live from a localation--but nope nothing. There is a certain ego that radio peeps have, that they are above whoring themselves out to gain attention and traction..

There's social media video of them giving out shirts at a recent Dodgers game. I do think stations have cheapened out somewhat in terms of free swag (particularly smalll-market iHeart stations) and while I'm sure they could be doing more, you cant accurately say they arent out & about.

KLOS should have a presence at concerts, not every concert, but ones like Motley Crue or GNR or Rush last week- they dont.?? Why not? Thats the musc the play...embrace it. the public loves free crap- had out keychains, or stickers. Something. Its frustrating for me because no one seems to care about this business anymore

Here's a hint: If you want to see pics of KLOS DJs at concerts or doing interviews, go to their Instagram page.

ever notice how many "influenccers" are out and about? as lame as they are they know how to get attention, rdio programmers dont have that mindset

Radio folks do lots of stuff, and they interact with their listeners on social media.

A lot of it depends on the format. Country artists invite radio people to their shows all the time. Morgan Wallen did a get together with radio people at his show in Chicago:

Thats cool- I was at Tom Keifer's show about a year ago----who into'd him? Frank from Heidi and Frank, no one in the audience knew who Frank was...I had listened that morning and there was no mention of him being there...Mark and Brian knew how to do it---

Why isn't the FAN at events? Trying to press the flesh? Hand out swag?

Sadly, because that costs money. Does Audacy have much of a promotions budget? I doubt it.

Some of the teams have exclusivity arrangements with other competing stations. Radio stations can't just show up on private property and start handing out swag.

Part of the reason a lot of us were surprised that Audacy started a sports station is they have no such deals in place. So they're starting from scratch.

I never implied that they should just show up- I am well aware that you need to have contracts and deals in place. It's private property

I laugh every time I see this thread, because that’s how I feel when I accidentally tune into 97.1 and hear the new format. I yell, “Yikes” and change the station.
The morning show and midday show are atrocious. It gets better somewhat with afternoons and the new night show they have is pretty good actually. I don’t expect this lineup to be the same in a year, hell maybe even 6 months. There are GLARING holes in the talent disparity and content quality.

Audacy says they did not plan to sell the St. Louis cluster, but an attractive offer they couldn't turn down surfaced:
Eventually Audacy will be a top 10 market company only with the real revenue coming from sales of the other clusters and podcasting.
