Empire State Building - climbers

They didn't climb all the way up from the ground. From what I heard, they took the elevator up to the 86th floor observation deck, and then somehow gained access from there.
More likely the 102nd floor observation deck, where there's a locked door that goes up to an access point to the mast itself.

It is not. It was the WNBC 4/WNYW 5 analog antenna and has been dark since 2009.
What would happen if the antenna at the top was still active (pre 2009), and someone grabbed onto it? Would that mean instant death? Or would it just cook your insides? I know you’re never supposed to get near an AM tower, but FM is different. Of course, the engineers I’ve talked to have never advocated for grabbing onto an active FM or TV beam when it’s active at full strength lol

With 200 kW coming out of it? Either some really, really, really painful RF burns or, probably, enough of a shock to knock them clean off the antenna and straight down 300+ feet to the 86th floor observation deck.

It would not have been pretty.

Probably you would lose instantly the ability to hold on to the tower or antenna, and fall to your death.

Many AM stations were built with the offices and studios at the base of their tower.

The reason is that antennas radiate energy... not 60 cycle per second, but at radio frequencies. Touching an antenna while having one's feet on the ground or floor can be harmful if not deadly.
