Hartford/New Haven Pirate Broadcaster Fined

It's been a while since I've posted... hello again.

I laughed when I read this.

One of my favorite movies is Pump Up The Volume with Christian Slater (affiliate link)... although I would never suggest, recommend, or condone someone operating a station without a license.

It's just interesting to see people trying to get away with it...

Did anyone hear the station while it was on? Was he flying by the seat of his pants, or did he try to sound like a licensed station?

Reminds me of "Dr Phillip Duncan" running the HipHop format on WNTY when I came to Southington to manage the station... It wasn't pirate radio, but sometimes the way he ran things was questionable. Hence, he lost his broker contract.

Ah, yes... little WNTY popping up again. I laugh again, thinking about how so much was said about WNTY/WXCT. It certainly is memorable for some of us and for different reasons.

These people running pirate stations are characters sometimes. There was a long time Caribbean Music Pirate on 103.3 FM Called Busy Radio In 2018 Full Power radio owner of WDRC 1360 signed on a translator for WDRC 1360 on 103.3 FM. The unlicensed Busy Radio moved to 92.9 FM. Right after Busy Radio movrd frequencies one of their hosts complained on air how WDRC 1360 had stolen Busy Radio's frequency. 😆

As of 2026 Philip Dunan does Mornings on the all new 105.3 Island Mango Radio. It's 24/7 Caribbean Music and Entertainment. 105.3 is the FM translator for WNEZ 1230-AM Manchester. When Radio Insight reported the purchase of WNEZ 1230-AM/105.3 ,it was reported Island Mango Radio the buyer of the station was owned by Mable Duncan.

P.S. I have listened to Philip Duncan on Islang Mango Radio and he's a lot raunchier than he was back in the day on Blaze 990 and Jamz 910 before that.

When was that? The FCC said Gois owns it.
