Weekend/off hour specialty shows or syndicated shows.

I heard Mason's Liveline show on KKMT (Star Hit Radio) Ronan, a few nights ago during my Montana trip. It can only go up from here, I'm sure! He was energetic and playing a lot of current hits, plus a request for "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson.

Sister station Big 100 (KIBG) airs Throwback Nation from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tony only plays the carefully-loved big hits, while the local programming has a 1000+ song playlist or more. It amuses me, I guess. I heard KIBG play both "The Thrill is Gone" and "Ridin' with the King" by the late B.B. King (the latter with Eric Clapton) last weekend while driving around for the 50 Mile yard sales...sadly in the rain. I doubt Tony would play either one of those songs.

He still gained a lot of affiliates for TNR after the passing of Tom Kent. Bill Shannon was filling in quite a bit in those final weeks before he passed (and for the few days after he passed), then the TK Radio Network dissolved. No more Ultimate Party, no more Music Magazine. Both KARY and KKSR locally were Tom's affiliates, and both gained Tony Lorino's show.

The show has doubled its station count in just over a year. He has gone from 40ish to 90 or so.

United Stations picking up his syndication rights helps, what doesn't is I don't think he's signed any of the bigger, more regional owners. His show would get a huge boost if a regional group signed him to be on all their CHR or Hot AC stations much in the same way Townsquare does with PopCrush Nights (for CHR) Ultimate Classic Rock or Taste of Country.

A question about specialty shows and streaming. I am currently listening to AT40 the 80s on an iHeart station via the stream. When the show started, the title/artist information stopped showing, as it does during specialty longform shows that don't utilize the regular music library.

I know we have had conversations about how streaming royalties are calculated by number of active streams. But when, in my case right now with AT40 the 80s, how is the music monitored for streaming royalty payments? Are the songs in the show not 'counted' toward streaming royalties?

That's usually correct. Depends on the show and station.

Music is monitored by Mediabase. Stations not monitored must submit playlists, including syndication, to ASCAP and BMI. The DMCA was very detailed about the information streamers must submit to SoundExchange.

What you're not seeing is the backend of things. Sure, metadata might not be updated publicaly but as long as it's getting from station to stream host, it's compliant.

Further, I know that Mediabase also has song detection software running to decode streams without metadata (and there are a LOT of stations that do not include that).
