I don't know: is the KGO sign on the Fremont Register of Historic Places?
Whether it's worth the bother is another question.
The KNBR studios are in Daly City. The AM transmitter site is at Redwood Shores.

Considering there was a time when 610 and 560 were diplexed, it's certainly technically possible.
But if no buyer has emerged in a full year, it's unlikely one will surface at the last second. There's zero evidence Cumulus itself has anything it wants to do with the signal that would merit the expense of resurrecting it this late in the game.
Even after this one shuts down, they still have three AMs. More than they really need. More than they can afford.

The founder Curtis Springer, used to do his radio show from the site of his mineral springs spa in Zzyzx. Basically selling snake oil remedies and supplements. This was back in the days of XERB and XELO.

Its about 2 miles off of Interstate 15 near Baker. You can still visit the place, but it's now a university desert studies center.
If the sign is not a historical landmark, I would take the sign down and not replace it.
I used to work for a local telephone company. People with that last name used to change it to add an extra “Z” to the front so they could be the last entry in the phone book!
Just wait, someone will throw a fit if or when the sign gets removed, just like some people did when the Ampex sign by Highway 101 was removed.

If Cumulus removed the KGO sign, does it have listenership or goodwill in sufficient measure to risk?
Having the sign up costs nothing, is not seen by the vast majority of people in the listening area and has zero impact whatsoever on ratings or revenue.
The only reason to remove it would be in response to an intellectual property claim from Disney, and if that happens, I know a museum in Alameda that would give it a good home.
Was neon ever part of the KGO sign?
