Was neon ever part of the KGO sign?
Congrats, you're our lucky 1400th caller poster! (And the sign did illuminate at night once upon a time, though I drove by at around 5pm, so it sure wasn't lit then.)

Just wait, someone will throw a fit if or when the sign gets removed, just like some people did when the Ampex sign by Highway 101 was removed.
What?? You mean they took that down? You made me look it up. Here's the story from 2018:
I used to work right next to that sign, when the campus was the headquarters of Excite@Home. Nowadays it's largely a satellite of Stanford University, though there's a data center (Genentech's, I think) immediately in front of where the sign lived for all those decades. We'd sometimes walk under it after lunching at our luxurious cafeteria.

There's a simple solution to the sign problem. Remove the "G", leave the "K" and "O" where they are and stick either the Giants' interlocking "SF" logo or the 49ers football-shaped "SF" where the "G" had been. Since Cumulus has relationships with both teams, getting permission shouldn't be a problem (free product placement), and the cost would be minimal. And then donate the "G" to CHRS so it can live out the remainder of its life in Alameda next to the KSFO tower topper and that big photo of Carter B.

Rube Goldberg, call your office.

Actual simple solutions:

1. Leave it. For all the reasons I listed in my last post.

2. If Disney wants it gone because they own the calls, give the whole sign to CHRS.
