A missing persons invesitgation is under way on Naya Rivera a former cast member of Glee

LAKE PIRU (CBSLA) — The search for 33-year-old “Glee” actress Naya Rivera resumed early Thursday morning after she went missing Wednesday afternoon on a lake in the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Rivera rented a pontoon boat at about 1 p.m. Wednesday for herself and her 4-year-old son to take out onto Lake Piru, which is located about 50 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

About three hours later, another boater found her child sleeping in the boat by himself. The boater notified officials, who immediately began a search for Rivera with the use of helicopters, drones and dive teams.

The child was said to be unharmed and told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother never got back into the boat.

There is now a report that there is a body found in Lake Piru but verification that it is Naya Rivera is pending.

Breaking news update: The body of missing actress Naya Rivera was found floating in Lake Piru on Monday morning, days after she went missing during a boating trip with her young son and presumed dead, Ventura County officials said.

“We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera,” Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said, delivering the grim news at an afternoon news briefing.

Authorities concluded her remains had been discovered based on the location, clothing, physical characteristics and the physical condition of the body, as well as an absence of any other missing persons reports in the area, according to the sheriff.

Dental records will be used to make a positive identification, he said.

Detectives have found no immediate indication of foul play or suicide, according to Ayub. An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.

Confirmed by the Coroners office

NEW YORK (AP) — Naya Rivera, a singer and actor who played a gay cheerleader on the hit TV musical comedy “Glee,” was found dead Monday in a Southern California lake. She was 33.

Rivera’s body was discovered five days after she disappeared on Lake Piru, where her son, Josey, was found July 8 alone on a boat the two had rented, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the body was Rivera’s.

“Rest sweet, Naya. What a force you were,” wrote “Glee” co-star Jane Lynch on Twitter. Steven Canals, who co-created and produced the FX television show “Pose,” tweeted that he was “heartbroken over all the stories that will remain untold.”

It's a shame one of the newspaper articles didn't even bother to mention she saved her son. One newspaper actually focused on that.

In almost every story I've heard, read or watched that specially has been mentioned. Problem is, unless the child told the story, and understood what he was saying, we will never really know. The pontoon boats I am familiar with usually have swim platforms and/or ladders. Without one or the other it might indeed be difficult to hoist a 4-year old wearing a PFD over the side.

If you are wondering why Redd Foxx death is trending 30 years later here is one of the reasons why that is at play. The Late Naya Rivera was as old as her child today when she saw Redd Foxx's death on the show "The Royal Family" in which Naya was the Youngest person on the show.

Although Rivera said she had good memories on the set of The Royal Family, there was one memory she had that wasn’t so good. The actor said she was practicing her lines with Foxx one day when something unusual happened.

On October 11, 1991—less than a month after The Royal Family had premiered—Redd and I were running our lines on set. He was sitting in an easy chair, and I was standing on my mark in front of him, when all of a sudden, he kind of slumped over and fell to the floor. For a while, no one moved. One of the producers even yelled, ‘Redd, come on!’ Everyone assumed it was just part of his routine, so we waited patiently for him to stand back up. Except, he didn’t.

[Della Reese] rushed over, leaned down to him, and heard him saying, ‘Get my wife–get my wife.’ Della stood up and started screaming, which jolted everyone in the room into action. He was the first person I knew who died, and I still remember his funeral—which was held in Las Vegas—very vividly. It was open casket. He looked very kingly in a white suit, and it was a fitting tribute to a man who liked to live large.

Naya Rivera in Sorry Not Sorry

Naya Rivera was born on January 12, 1987, and grew up in Santa Clarita, California. She entered show business when she was still a toddler, earning a role on the sitcom The Royal Family at the age of four. However, the show was soon beset by tragedy when the comedian John Elroy Sanford (better known by the stage name Redd Foxx), who played her grandfather, had a heart attack on set and then died in the hospital hours later.

“We sat there, his TV family and his real family, all mixed together in the waiting room, praying and trying to comfort one another,” Rivera wrote in her 2016 autobiography, Sorry Not Sorry.
