a station will flip formats. several people will get fired. A few others get smart and get out. I will get suckered back into it.

And Zeke Terry will be overlooked AGAIN when the Daytime Emmy Nominations are announced... (However, I think this might be the Zeke's year at the Latin Grammys!)

Before the 1'st quarter is over, you'll hear one or more stations running advertisements looking to hire salespeople.

Ya know it's funny you should mention this, one time after some bad Taco Bell (and we've ALL been there) I had wierd dreams of being an english speaking DJ on a Mexican Radio giving away 10,000 pesos or a shiny new burro a day. And you'd be suprised at how many took the burro.

I think it was 6 months after that, that I tried Taco Hell again.

I will be the first on my block to sell Emu jerky in mason jars. Hmmm. Tasty this time of year. I wil also be selling my cds at the Old Turtles store on American Way At Perkins. Hot sauce anybody?

Great Idea!!... let's see an IPOD do THAT!! ... what? ...it CAN?... never mind.

Since you didn't specify radio predictions, here's one:

The Grizzlies will leave Memphis and we'll have yet another hugely expensive empty building.

I predict that rock 103 and kix 106 will have the same staff lineup all year and do well in ratings

urban radio will rule the ratings top5

ad dollars go through the roof and full time radio employees all get a christmas bonus

(yay a positive prediction)

no....its pretty small town to think building an arena for a major league pro team is a waste of money

its here and the grizz have been a playoff team almost every year

hopefully the younger memphis generation will think more positive and bigger

OK, at the risk of having the thread moved...

No, it's just mature and responsible when dealing with taxpayer money to make good business decisions. Spending 250 Mil on a sports arena when Memphis has so many other pressing problems was not one of them. Nor did the market analysis paint that rosy a picture anyway (do your research). Memphis was too starstruck with the possibility of a pro team to negotiate rationally with the NBA and Grizzlies organization. Business sense dictated a shakeout period in the Pyramid for a few years. Once the team had proven it could draw the fans and support a new arena, THEN it would have been time to start talking. The argument that The Pyramid was too small rings a little hollow when you look at all the empty Forum seats at the games. What's worse, this city had already been taken once by Sidney Schlenker. Fool me once...

It's also ridiculous to give the Griz the right of refusal for any booking at ANY city venue, which contributed to the lack of major musical acts coming here and the demise of the Pyramid and now Coliseum.

The hard facts are that the franchise is in trouble. They are the worst perfoming team in the NBA both in the standings and attendance. Heisley wants out but no one would back the ONLY potential buyer to come forward. I would love to see them succeed, and I go to the games...but fact is, it's not happening and to date it HAS been a waste of money for the city in general. Like it or not, Memphis isn't a city on a par with Dallas or St. Louis. We MAY be one day but we aren't now. It's not an overnight process nor will a pro team instantly grant status as a 'major city'. The Redbirds folks knew that and scaled their efforts accordingly, with much success. The 'birds have contributed to the growth of downtown as an entertainment district as much as the Griz have...for a lot less money.

I too hope the younger Memphis generation will think positive and bigger..as long as there is a good dose of common sense involved. Running headlong into poor decisions is not what I have in mind. They'll have a chance to demonstrate that with Herenton's new football stadium proposal.
