I too hope the younger Memphis generation will think positive and bigger..as long as there is a good dose of common sense involved. Running headlong into poor decisions is not what I have in mind. They'll have a chance to demonstrate that with Herenton's new football stadium proposal.

Like THIS, perhaps:

"We can't afford it. We have a Pyramid that's empty. We have a coliseum that's empty. We haven't paid for the Pyramid yet. We have a FedEx Forum that still isn't paid for. We have crime out of control. We need to get our fiscal house in order before we start a huge project,"

-Carol Chumney on the stadium proposal.

Is Willie going to base his re-election campaign on the football stadium proposal?
Is he serious?
Is there a chance for someone to beat him in the October election?
Will Myron Lowry run?
Will Carol Chumney have a chance?
I think Ford Jr. would have a chance if he decided to lower himself to actually LIVE in Memphis.
Do you think the Pyramid's future as a Bass Pro location is a real possibility?

JoeMorris: I most certainly hope so...I'm too much an old rocker for K-love.

Meepster: I'm a Republican, but I'd vote for Chumney in a heartbeat over any republican candidate for mayor. Ditto for Herman Morris. I'd vote for him, too (I hear you can vote twice in Memphis)...

That is, If I hadn't gotten the heck out of Memphis a decade ago.

I'm also Republican, and got the heck out of Memphis (residentially speaking) in '98.
No republican will have a chance, and Chumney makes a lot of sense a lot of times.
Plus, I don't really believe being a Non-Memphian necessarily keeps us from voting in Memphis.
If dead people can vote...why can't we?

Radio-wise...
I think there will be more format and ownership changes. I wouldn't be surprised by some swaps, and I truly believe the personel changes are far from over. I think some stations will physically move (or start the process) fairly soon...and there will be many new program directors within the quarter year.

Vote early and often!!

Air 1 (Christian hit equivalent of K-Love) will finally get a frequency in Memphis.

Frosty would have to walk through downtown Hell in August before that happens. (points to those who get the reference. The list will be short)

My prediction: A new set of CC HD stations will be developed in Memphis.

And I'll still be doing split. :'(

Joe,
I hope you're right on that one. With EMF buying WKNQ in Dyersburg, it would make sense that at least one of their stations in West TN would switch to Air 1. I'd hope that both 94.9 stations in Ripley and Byhalia (and perhaps 88.9 in Union City?) would switch to Air 1. Or would that cause too many problems for 94.7?

Yeah, it'd cause problems, primarily because KLove needs 94.7 and 94.9 in the area to cover all of Memphis. 94.7 is directional, but it's pretty lost in southwest Memphis. 94.9 is omnidirectional but, again, only covers to around Perkins Road. So they won't ever change those anchor frequencies.

One thing you have to remember is that during their sharathons, Memphis has never gotten above 70%. 70% keeps the status quo for EMF, but if they can't get 100% support for their flagship signal, why would they even consider bringing in the second team?
