1 Down, 3 to Go - 101.7, 102.5, 104.3

Now that Radio 106.7 has emerged and the dust has settled, when do we get to see the next three sticks 101.7, 102.5 and 104.3 make a move into the Columbus market? Will anybody take on WNCI or WCKX?

Merry Christmas and here's to a happy and exciting 2008.

104.3 is scheduled to move in sometime in 08 but it's anybody's guess on a timetable. There are still things that have to happen before light is seen at the end of that tunnel. I think 3rd quarter at the earliest and 4th quarter for real. Then what Saga will do with it is another whole thought process considering they are having trouble managing the three formats they have now.

I appears that the BLOOM TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES, during its August 22 meeting, turned down
the WHIZ request to build its new tower in BLOOM TOWNSHIP. So, it appears that the new WHIZ tower
site is on hold at least for now. Below is the BLOOM TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES meeting for March
and August of this year where the WHIZ tower issuie was discussed:

<<<BLOOM TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING 03/28/07>>>

• Radio tower report: Cyphert stated Harold and Robert Stebelton, in conjunction with WHIZ,filed an application for a radio station tower to be placed on Amanda Northern Road, just southof the Edward Phillips property. Cyphert stated the Board of Zoning Appeals has approved aproposed site for the plan but has not approved having the tower. The BZA will not approve the total conditional use permit until all terms of the resolution have been met. She said they are far from completing the requirements and she does not expect a vote on the complete application for quite some time.

<<<BLOOM TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING 08/22/07>>>

ZONING & BOARD OFFICE REPORT: by Anne Darling Cyphert, Board Admin & B/Z Admin. Radio Tower update: The BZA turned down the request for the WHIZ conditional use permit due to an incomplete application. Cyphert expects the applicant to re-file later this year.

It looks like 15 Informal Objections have been filed against the 101.7 application to move into
Columbus. So, it looks like the WHIZ-FM ,102.5 CP above and the WNKO, 101.7 application will
not make it on the air in 2008. WHIZ, 102.5 is being held up by zoning of their tower site
and the WNKO app. is being held up by Informal Objections.

This are the list of all the formal objections to WNKO's application:

Update: 2 Down, 1 to go-101.7

102.5 is now on the air simulcasting CD-101 programing and will replace CD-101 once the stations is sold to the present CD-101 owners.

104.3 won't be built because it's application was dismissed by the FCC. It remains to be seen if they reapply to move their stick closer to Cbus.

This leaves 101.7. Any updates on when/if they will get on the air from a new stick in Cbus? Their CP to move their stick to Cbus is good for another 15 months now. Another move-in has to happen in Dayton before this can happen. What is up with the Dayton move in?

gabigley, I have asked around about the WKSW move from 101.7 to 101.5 and have not been able to get an answer on it. I do know WKSW is supposed to move their studios eventually from Springfield to 717 E. David Rd. in Kettering(The headquarters for the rest of the ML/Dayton stations-WGTZ, WDHT, WROU, and WING-AM)but when they make the switch to 101.5 is anyone's guess. Stay tuned. ???

WTDA on 103.9 has applied to move it's tower to the west side of Columbus. If 104.3 wants to also reapply to move to it's stick the west side of Columbus, they would have to file a mutual application with WTDA. The WTDA application makes it unlikely 104.3 will want to move it's tower to
the west side of Columbus. So, it looks like the 104.3 move in is dead, at least for now.

Any updates on the 100.7 move-in? They have until next October. That is when there CP runs out.

You mean 101.7 FM?

Well they applied to modify their CP for New Albany with a tower site near johnstown instead of the old WCVO tower site in New Albany..

That application modification was approved 11/03/10.

They have till late next year to build.

File Number: BMPH-20100720AAB
Call Sign: WNKO
Facility Id: 57936
FRN: 0003740107
Applicant Name: RUNNYMEDE, INC.
Frequency: 101.7
Channel: 269
Community of License: NEW ALBANY, OH
Application Type: MINOR MODIFICATION TO A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT
Status: GRANTED
Status Date: 11/03/2010
Expiration Date: 10/14/2011

It will be interestingto see if the fcc even allows WTDA to move their tower over to the west side of Columbus since WXEG in Fairborn is on the same frequency as they are.

Looks like a weak signal for the metro. Weren't they trying to get on the 107.9 tower off 71 and 36/37?

Yes prior to the current CP they had applied to move to the tower north of town.. Apperently it appears they still want to target the Newark area with the current CP mod placing the tower just slightly out of Johnstown

They will not 'cover' as much of the Columbus Metro as the prior Mod Requests (the old CVO tower and the one north of town).

Their prior CP Coverage Map, just north of town:

Their New CP Coverage map:

It looks like they are going to lose some coverage of the Columbus Metro aera with their new CP.

How did you locate that link?  The 57db service-contour Google map link I found near the bottom of the following page (which indicates CP modification granted 11/3/10 in the "Application Info") produces a map which has much greater coverage westward.

That is their 70 dBU, City Grade Coverage map I found in their application they posted with the FCC.

Is it typical for there to be such a dramatic difference between 57db and 70db coverage?

Can someone clarify all this above?

And another question - this might just be the best place for it.

What is the current status of 101.1? WWCD announced they were gonna run a loop directing listeners to 102.5 starting 10/31, until the WOSU folks took it over.

Is the loop on now, or is it still running "CD 101"? It's hard to tell from their website. You think they'd drop the "101" part if that was the case.
