LMAO- Where have you been? The majority of those songs have been played to death in the many re-incarnations of KFRC in the last couple years..... :D

Nurse Jeff and I'd listen if you can throw in Brown Eyed Girl. We just don't hear it enought ;) ;)

Fast Philly...What station in the Bay in the last 3 years has been playing this mix of songs?

And besides, Nurse Jeff & Dr. Akbar would listen to my station!....lol

Amen. (Gosh, I'm saying amen a lot here.) Some suggested songs that I have not heard on KFRC or elsewhere in years 'n' years:

(1) Dead End Street - Lou Rawls
(2) Itchy Coo Park - Small Faces
(3) Raspberry Beret - Prince
(4) Society's Child - Janis Ian
(5) Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse
(6) Timothy - The Buoys (Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go... -- the cannibal song)
(7) All The Young Dudes - Motley Crue
(8) I Think I Love You - Partridge Family
(9) Life Is A Rock, But the Radio Rolled Me - by who? "Reunion"?
(10) Stoney End -Barbra Streisand
(11) Lonely Days - Bee Gees
(12) Go All The Way - Raspberries
(13) Skin Tight - Ohio Players
(14) Tell Me Something Good - Rufus
(15) Nothing From Nothing - Billy Preston

Now these songs have not been played to death. In fact I can't remember any of them being played at all in decades.

Hmmm...didn't see Beach Baby by First Class in the KFRC power hour of marginable music! Come to think of it, Nurse Jeff and I only hear Navy Blue on XM6. If we have to put up with The Partridges, give us Diane Renay!

"All the Young Dudes" was Mott the Hoople, not Motley Crue -- and it is one of the most overplayed songs on classic rock/Triple-A radio (see: KFOG and The Bone). Ditto "Itchykoo Park". Most of the rest show up semi-regularly on Dave Morey's 10@10, tho' not in regular KFOG rotation, so that may not count.

I'll agree on "Stoney End", one of the great lost singles of the '70s, but Streisand is considered a very divisive "negative" by any format other than older-skewing "lite" stations. Interestingly, it showed up on the "classic" Casey Kasem countdown from 1971 a couple of Saturdays ago on KFRC, as did the BeeGees and Partridges. (easily the best 3 hours of radio KFRC does all week)

Yeah, Mott the Hoople. I don't listen to KFOG or KSAN so I can't say that I've heard it overplayed.

When will KFRC add?

The Night Chicago Died---Paper Lace

Seasons In The Sun--Terry Jacks

Brand New Key--Melanie

Knock 3 Times--Tony Orlando and Dawn

Brandy--Looking Glass

Seventeen--Janis Ian

More Than I Can Say--Leo Sayer

Can't Take My Eyes Off of You--Frankie Valli

Bring back the cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze

It seems KFRC is getting back to their old ways.....And I don't mean their 610AM days..
KC and the Sunshine Band was the artist of the hour, and just into the hour I called in to request "Keep It Comin' Love"....He said "if can find it then put it on"......I emphasized to him that I hav'nt heard that song on the air in many, many years...and sure enough, it will still be many, many years before I hear it on the air......They did play the other KC played out songs....Get Down Tonight,Thats The Way I Like It,Shake Your Booty... ::)

My personal favorite is "Boogey Shoes" with that great brass-section hook. You may be expecting too much from a Classic Hits station. Even with the new improved expanded play ists, they will always play a limited selection of songs based on research. But I don't think they're actually limiting the number of selections from multi-hit artists.

Boz Scaggs is another example - you always hear "Lowdown," and very occasionally "Lido Shuffle," but you'll never hear "Jo Jo," or "We're All Alone.".

We all have particular favorites that you'll never hear on Classic Hits radio. If you're expecting that in a hit radio station, you'll always be frustrated. KFOG is a great alternative because they're not hit driven. Of course, you probably won't hear KC on KFOG. That's what music downloads are for.

Good grief! It's in the slogan. Classic HITS. Not classic stiffs. A hit music station of any stripe always tries to play the hits (even the hits of 30 years ago), and uses old chart positions plus current music research to try to determine what the hits are (or which ones aren't too burned out yet!)

Even a Triple A like KFOG has a rotation, and a music director scheduling the songs in Selector. You probably have to look to college radio or downloading to get to the really deep cuts.

Newsperons responds:

Yes "Lowdown" is the only one I have heard. How about "You make it so very hard to say no" another Boz Scaggs song that JMF played in regular rotation on KFRC back in 75-76?

The station is so artist orientated and not song focused like:

Harper's Bizar -Feeling Groovy

The Platters - With this Ring and I love you 1000 Times (Sonny Turner is still alive and well)

Jerry Bulter - Only the Strong Survive

4-Seasons - Workin' My Way Back to You

Miracles - I Second that Emotion

and the newest one here

Matthew Wilder - Breakin' My Stride

I just threw this song list together and they are all different except that all of them get little or no airplay.

I know Sonny Turner (lead singer of the Platters begining in 59) personally and last August we talked about it. He is upset that radio stations won't play his music from either era. The first era was the music on Mercury Records from the 50s though the early 60s. The second era is the music on Budda Records that hit in the mid to late 60s.

Does KBLX or KIIS play any Platters on its Sunday shows?

Any comments on the Platters or the other songs and artists listed above?

Newsperson

"Does KBLX or KIIS play any Platters on its Sunday shows?"

Not sure about KBLX, but Tony Sandoval plays some pretty obscure and forgotten soul music on the Sunday Super Oldies Show on Kiss-FM - so I wouldn't be surprised if he plays the Platters.

As far as the other songs you mention - a few were in rotation in the Oldies days - but the Classic Hits format has pretty much eliminated the secondary 60s hits. Nothing by the 4 Seasons gets airplay any longer on KFRC. I recommend you get an HD radio and listen to the KOIT HD2 Oldies channel. I've heard a few 4 Seasons songs, Only the Strong Survive, I Second that Emotion...and they OVER play Feelin' Groovy.

Typically, KOIT HD2 has too small a play list, though they've added some new (old) songs recently.

Stream KONO101.1.com, kearth101.com, wcbsfm.com and the listen for a while! Those stations all have playlists that make KFRC sound second rate, small market.

I was in my car today and tried to listen to KFRC and just couldn't keep it on. The music sucked....no other way to put it!

I don't see them getting any appreciable ratings if they keep this up? I guess CBS is ok with a $90 million dollar signal in the #4 market in America, pulling 0.9's?? Unbelievable!

Between Sirius and XM Mornings are worth listening to

Phlash Phelps on the 60s channel
Pat St John on Sirius 6
Majic Mat on totally 70 Sirius... Dave and Celeste just dont do it for me!!!

Keep It Comin Love was a top 5 single....Hardly a stiff....Now "I Like To Do It" by KC and The Sunshine Band is a stiff and a Deep Cut..

I've been assembling the Top 100 songs of each year (recorded from my vast 45 single collection) and converting them to MP3 and arranging them in countdown order....I've got to tell you, there is ALOT of good stuff that Classic Hits is leaving out!!!

Exactly Philly....They are still so relatively limited, it's maddening! This format can be so much fun, but they manage to make it ordinary at best! Take a look at KONO101.com's ( a top rated station) playlist and I think you'll see your comments validated!
