Rupert Holmes "Escape - The Pina Colada Song"
now that the Christmas tunes are over...hmmmmm

Also, "Escape/Pina Colada Song" was first tune played on JACK FM May 2005. Station has enjoyed good ratings since. Never deny the power that is Rupert Holmes.

whatever happened to the Captain and what's her name. (I know it, just can't spell it)
When I first heard the name "Captain & Tennille," I actually thought it was one person! (Captain Antenil! ;D) But I can top that! My mother actually thought Olivia Newton-John was three people! (Olivia, Newt, & John! ;D) I suppose she thought ONJ was another Peter, Paul, & Mary or something! ;D

I cannot believe you people want to taint this post with this gibberish about ONJ and C&T. Enough.

I am officially worried. It's been a full day of Post Christmas Lite Rock Favorites and it DID NOT PLAY...

What in the he$$ are you thinking, Sarge? Are you just playing with our simple minds?
Okay, we surrender, we're head over heals about him, him, him...(Rupert that is). How
can anyone make it through another day, after so many weeks??? Enough is enough
already. Time after time, you never let us down. Are you all out of love? Is this really
the day the music died? Please forgive me. Don't Harden your heart...With or without
Escape, I cannot live. Hello?

SCOTT --- this is all your fault for trying to compete with that Hot AC format and
now disco.

Just so long as they don't play it in (or on!) the air tonight!

It's now time to party down, I'm listening to Patrick Hernandez's, "Born to be alive" The long 12" version! "1979 JAMZ"! It's all the way live DISCO!

I cannot believe you people want to taint this post with this gibberish about ONJ and C&T. Enough. snicker if you must..but i'd swap my bank account for their residuals ..he!! rupert must make a fortune just off the plays from mixxxxx 92 niiiiine :D

Sarge.. Did you get a gold record on the wall in Paducah, for playing Rupert??? ;D

I think I was already numbed by Rupert before I left Paducah that fall, but one of my first memories of the 10p-2a shift at 92Q was the segue from Kermit the Frog's "Rainbow Connection" into "All of My Love" by Led Zeppelin... that, and the teenage audience quickly discovering there was no delay in the phone calls to Sherman Novison's short-lived Sunday morning public affairs program.

In 1991, I was working at 92Q (yes as an Urban Formatted Station) and Sam Howard just hired a new P.D. I believe to this day the new P.D. was a racist against white people. He took me off my Saturday Night Mix show, removed me from doing 6 PM to 10 PM, weekdays to an awful shift, 2 AM to 5:30 AM Sunday Night/Monday Morning. I was the only white guy working there at the time.

Well anyway in protest of Paddrick McFriene decision to move me to this awful airshift (to get rid of me), on my last Saturday Night on 92Q, I stopped the Ubran Format and my last song was "All of my Love" from Led Zeppelin. I got a call from Paddrick the next day telling me that was being childish for breaking format and leaving the station. I went to Sam Howard about it.

That new P.D. only lasted 1 book then I got a phone call from the new P.D. "Majik Jackson", telling me that Sam Howard wanted me back at 92Q. Majik told me if I wanted to play "All of my Love" as my first song back on the air, I could. That was cool of him!

Those were the classy days of 92Q... I was so impressed when we would pop into Nash-Vegas and I thought it was the 'bomb' of a Urban station.. I really saw a decline in sound and edge, when listening in the early to mid 90's (while at Oldies 96.3 and Way-Fm)....
