1 Thought per break on liners?

Other than talk radio or maybe on morning shows, I was always told to keep it "one thought per break" so the listener doesn't get confused & since many are only half hearing what the announcer says anyway. One liner I speak of promotes the web stream, a feature weekend & the contest that goes along with the feature weekend. Any thoughts? ??? ???

thats what i was always told as well and never really went by it (organized breaks yes but one thought no) until i started working out of the buisness for about a year until i realized nobody knows the DJ's name and their ears will only perk up and listen when they hear the score of some game that their interested in or hear a local event, other than that you could talk endlessly about the white cream inside an oreo cookie and listeners wouldn't care until they heard something they wanted to hear

I tell my guys, keep it short and sweet. Use your time efficiently. If you have a liner card to read, or a fun "story" make sure you read it before you go on the air and then put it in your own words so you don’t sound like you are reading it off a sheet of paper.

Also, always tease a story.. Tease N Please.. During a quick break in your music sweep at the beginning of the hour throw a little juicy nugget of the story out over the airwaves, (tease) and then mention full details at x:35..(Please) for example. This way, even if they tune away because of a song they do not like or because of heavy spot load, if you caught their attention they may come back to hear the rest of the story...(where have I heard that at ;) )

If you outline your thoughts, and be concise you should have no trouble staying on topic and not losing your audience. Because of all of our entertainment options people have shorter and shorter attention spans.

As the first poster said, out side of mornings a Hot Ac should be music driven, unless you are in a larger market that really focuses on talent, the music is the reason people listen.

IMHO, of course..
