10,000 oldies show premieres this week!

http://www.10000oldies.com/

Check it out - we've had it all to ourselves in Seattle - Now Ted Alexander goes worldwide on the web. Great show with deep cuts from the 50's - 70's, song histories and trivia. 9:00 - Midnight Saturday EDT; and 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening. (I'm not connected any way with Ted or his show) When's the last time you heard Maryanne Faithfull's "As Tears Go By" or the Cookies "I'm Into Something Good" - (before Herman's Hermits)

Thanks
Tom S

Does the show actual make any money or are you just 1 of 10,000 hobbyist radio geeks?

Wow! After reading your last couple of posts it sounds like you're a die-hard commercial radio guy who can't face the fact that commercial music radio is dead.

As to question 1 - I don't have any knowledge about Ted Alexander's finances or who may be sponsoring the program
As to question 2 - He puts on a really good show and I thought the folks who view and participate in this board would be interested in learning about his program. - Oldies as we knew them are indeed dead in most markets(unless you like hearing the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc) - so Ted's program provides an "oasis". Sorry if I offended you.

I wouldn't call anyone with 10,000 songs a geek, i would refer to them as your highness. they mentioned webcast..the best radio is on webcast..let WKRP in Cinn worry about revenue..these brilliant webcasters will have their pay-day soon..I'm sure they also play Irma Thomas "Time Is on My Side " pre-stones and much more..

I'm well aware that commercial radio is down the toilet. The point that I'm trying to make is that if you have an internet radio station and don't make money at, you are not a professional. If your internet radio station doesn't make money, you fall into the following categories.

1-You are a radio groupie who never could make it in radio and you used to call and bug djs on the request line.
2-You were once on a college radio station and are living in some kind of fantasy world that now you're a professional broadcaster.
3-You worked in radio for about eight bucks an hour and gave up and now you're trying to live out the same fantasy as number two.

The term "professional" means you get paid for what you do. If you have an internet radio and don't make money at, you're an amateur.

not all net programmers are first timers, visit the Rich Brothers website and many many more long time radio guys who are now on the net. the many actual first time programmers / webcasts sound great..i don't remember Moses coming down from the mountain with your definition of what constitutes a radio programmer. Your comments are very insulting and certainly doesn't do justice to the fine work on the net.

None of them make any money. They all have small audience numbers. It doesn't matter whether they're doing it for the first time or have a history in radio. The bottom line is that anyone who has an internet radio station and doesn't make money from it is doing it as a hobby and it is not a business and is doing it to gain attention for themselves and stroke their own egos.

talk about stroking their own ego's......

I'd rather believe that the majority of people who do this (whether they work in "paid" radio or who are simply Part 15 or podcasters) are sharing their passion and love for the music with others (much like many artists or writers share their talents with others)

I'm putting together an online station just for fun, for the love of music... and for the love of the art of DJing.

Best wishes. You make my point. You have alove for the music and want to add some personality. It's not ego - its art. Congratulations and keep us posted with some "airchecks"
