Incorrect on the above. This Radio Moscow relay was in 1980; Radio Marti fired up in 1985, and there was no talk about Marti in 1980.
What *did* occur, in the late 1980s, was the use of Radio Taino in Cuba, which used either 1160 or 1180 kHz with possibly 300 kW, as response to Marti. Radio Taino still exists, but only on FM.*
Today, Cuba is using multiple transmitters of Radio Rebelde, on three frequencies---710, 1180, and 1620, to jam broadcasts from U.S. stations whose signals make it to Cuba (Miami's Spanish WAQI Radio Mambi on 710, Radio Marti on 1180, and Radio Republica via Virgin Islands' WDHP on 1620---although I am not sure the last one is still operating---Cuba may not be taking chances).
*Radio Marti uses 94.7 on FM now as well, but only for 2.5 hours a day; when we are in the Florida Keys, Radio Taino uses 94.7 as well, likely to jam Marti, but not much power used.
