"10 years of 'the wolf'" column from another R-I board

Yeah, very interesting indeed. I don't think he gets the distinction between "Texas Country" (country played in Texas) and "Texas Country" (country music BY Texans, FOR Texans). This "Southern California Country" BS is just another way of saying, yeah, we're a SoCal station that happens to play country music. And oh, yeah, I thought of it first, so there. ;)

Personally, I like the Wolf more now than before because they play a better mix of old favorites and new stuff - and sometimes, "Texas Country" gets on my nerves because it's so jangly. Kind of why I don't like '50s Country. And I don't listen much to KSCS anymore ("The Big 96-3"? Come on! You can do better than that!) since they took over a lot of The Twister's playlist.

But I'm in video production, and deal with a lot of production music, and after a while the same seven notes all start sounding the same. That's why my MP3 player has everything from Percy Faith to Linkin Park. Even Platinum 96.7 is beginning to sound a little stale to me.

A definite correlation can be seen in mainstream country radio between the rise in ratings of younger audiences and the music's downhill quality slide. Upping the tempo with contemporary influences watered down the music to the point to where it is almost unrecognizable as country, or what it used to be. A prime example of this is the popularity of Rascal Flatts on country radio.

Does anyone know the name and e-mail address of the PD at The Wolf? I'd like to contact him..

The P/D at the Wolf is Jan Jefferies, don't know the e-mail address though. You can call the station and ask for his e-mail address.
