100.1 WQIC

WQIC is a quirky little station to say the least but they're really not bad. i came home the other night and my wife, who likes to flip around stations on her kitchen radio, had them blasting. she says to me "this is a cool station. what is it" (knowing i am the family radio geek). i looked and saw 100.1 on the display and said "ahh you wound up on central pa's forgotten little station." she goes "yeah they're cool. the dj's sound goofy and amateur but the music is really good."

odd little station that never gets talked about on here. i can't even find if they have a website. do they make an impact on lebanon area ratings at all? who owns this outfit? don't they still sign off at night?

Sorry, I moved away in 1996, but is this the station that used to be called WUFM?

Yup. WLBR/WUFM, Lebanon. They are still located on Route 72 just outside of town. WLBR/WQIC are owned by the Etter family, and I believe headed by Robert Etter now.

Re: 100.1 WQIC / WLBR

Both stations fill a niche role in the market. The Hershey Bears have a stable FM radio deal (that can actually be picked up around the market) for the first time after a few AM flagship stations. I like WLBR after 10pm as they have Jim Bohannon (found no where else in Central PA) until their 1am sign-off. Both stations probably don't have to care much about ratings, as long as they're making money.

Always nice to hear the booming voice of John Walton doing Bears hockey on the FM sound of WQIC. Even the crack of the bat of Sunday afternoon Phillies baseball sounds so much better on FM than on sister station WLBR. (That brings up another topic for another day -- When will we ever get the Fightin' Phils back on the Harrisburg radio dial?) Why I'd bet you might even hear the "swish" of the net on FM when WQIC does occasional high school basketball games.
