Loud and clear in Monroeville but fuzzy going east on rte 30. Why is radio service so crappy in general around there and on that side of Forest Hills? (Fairly non-technical explanation requested)

Non-technical hills and trees.

Slightly more technical: Big hills and deep valleys with tall leafy trees.

I'm still shocked that my friend can even get it in Washington, (25 miles away give or take), imagine if they went up to 198 watts. lol

Double the power would only make the signal go 1/4th further. In order to double the distance they would need 396 watts.

Yes, a translator is only allowed up to 250 watts so that won't work either...

I never really listen to WAMO when it was on 106.7 mainly because they sounded like KPRS back home. I remeber listening to WAMO AM on the Sufernet stream when they simulcast 107.1 back then. I think it was Majic for a while with a Urban AC format and then it got sold and it flipped to Adult Hits. I just saw the new website not bad needs work but not bad. Also the listen live link is up. Just waiting til they add it to Tune In Radio app on the iphone. Martz did it for their HD stations in Detroit

Hmmm... Lady Gaga? Bruno Mars? Last time I checked they weren't R&B/Hip-Hop artists even though they have been influenced by or collaborated with R&B/Hip-Hop acts.

Automated playlist for Rhythmic CHR radio which I guess is coming from San Franisco. Im sure once the studios are done theyll have more of a local sound. Lady Gaga which records are they playing?

Haven't heard either of those in my occasional listens, but overall the music selection seems less "street" than WAMO.

Just a reminder, for all the publicity about WAMO's demise, they went broke and went out of business. The target audience, with all due respect, is not the African-American community in urban areas, it's 18-34 females of all ethnicities. 19 year old white girls listen to Lady Gaga and Ke$ha.

Seems to be in the full 99+ to me, it performs more like a low powered Class A than a translator transmitting at that height on KDKA's tower. I work in Pittsburgh, live in Wheeling WV and I can get 100.1 + their RDS on the PA/WV state line, a good 40 air miles from KDKA's Tower where 100.1's 3-bay antenna is nested

BTW, listening to the station's streaming audio today, I did hear an official "WPYT Wilkinsburg/Pittsburgh" legal ID.

I don't know if they're using FSK to ID the translator, but the AM is being properly IDed.

The whole thing might be coming from their Upstate NY/ Montreal rimshot.

I happened to glance at the the car radio today and the RDS data said "94-7 Hits FM".

How's that for return on investment? Under $300K for the AM, maybe 1 guy here to keep it on the air and a couple of salespeople. If they even show up in the ratings they make money (and with that FM signal, showing up might be about all they can expect).

Checked out the live stream and Windows closed it stating it contained malicious add ons. Not kidding

How far are these 99 watt signals supposed to go? I just got back from vacation and was able to hear "WAMO100" in Wintersville Ohio. It was a dog fight between WCLG and "WAMO" but I could hear it. I'll be in Weirton tomorrow, my plan is to check it out!
