100.1

Drove the turnpike Friday from Cranberry to Monroeville and the signal was poor at both ends, a little better near Harmarville, but also totally unlistenable at times.

you have to understand the business plan here.... no overhead, limited signal.... a 1-share is a success, 1.5 is a home run, and a 2 is a grand slam (and I don't mean breakfast at Denny's..).

I'm still confused as to why they didn't use 100.3 instead of 100.1 and tripping all over 'CLG in some fringe areas. On 100.3 they may have been able to go the full 250 watts. I know there has to be a reason, I just don't know it! (lol).

at least the new owners of AM 660 seem to understand the basics of audio modulation

The 100.1 signal is pretty solid around the Mckeesport-Mon Valley area. WCLG will pop up in a few low-lying spots but nothing major. The signal is "very" strong in the Cranberry-Beaver Co.area. The 660AM signal was one of the strongest stations that I picked up in the Clarion area & as I was heading west down "Interstate 80" & south down 79.

It's nice to hear something different than "KISS FM" for a change. I'm hoping that when all the staff & programming is added that they include a "Quiet Storm" show at night. WAMO had one of the best for a few years when DJ Kode Wred had the show from about 2000-2005 from what I remember.......

I'm guessing you are driving an older car. The FM comes in better in my old 2002 Durango than in my 2011 Forester. In the Subaru, which has a typical cheap tuner common for newer radios, the FM signal was poor in Cranberry.

In general, it seems to get south a little better, but again in areas like along Rt 51 at the south end of the Liberty Tunnels the adjacent hillside hinders it pretty badly.

I usually don’t make comments but I’ve read so many bad reviews It’s crazy.. I find it all quiet entertaining and yet sad at the same time.

I will include my top 8 listener’s comments that I copied and pasted (excluding names) from their facebook page after my comments. Warning some of them you will need to decipher. (today’s youth lol)

At first I thought the station is doing some cunning stunting then I realized it’s a stunt gone bad? Or is it all really by design?

It’s painfully obvious to me that the person or persons, did not do their homework or research as to what the music programming consists of for an Urban/Urban AC format as taunted and reported to many media and trade outlets prior to it’s actual live broadcast! At least from what I’ve read!

One must look at the name as a brand that features a core of artists & music that the listeners are expecting to hear from a name that has in the past served the community for many years.

I’ve spent several hours listening to the station many times in many dayparts for many days, along with checking back for clarification and in my opinion it’s nothing more than a chr/rhythmic leaning station at best.

What’s strange is that might be their intention since they’ve spent so much time & effort blasting kiss fm.

How did I come to that conclusion you might ask?

If their intention is to be an urban station kiss fm has no real relevancy because 70% of kiss consists of different core artists or music! Of course there are crossover artists Lil Wayne, Drake, Wiz, Rihanna & others.

You would be hard pressed to fine any true urban or urban ac station in the country playing Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and others artists currently in their music rotation.

What’s Missing? The R. Kelly, Marsha Ambrosius , Charlie Wilson, Jamie Foxx, Adele, Donell Jones, Kem, & many others that are hot & heavily requested as part or an urban rotation during the midday’s or the Lloyd Banks, Ace Hood, Sean Garrett and others for the evenings if you are an urban/urban ac station?

People Want Coke stop filling the Coke bottle with Fago cuz it ain’t tasting right!

Of course all of this is just my opinion!

In all seriousness I’m willing to help them out with a starter music library, about 3 - 400 songs, a very simple format clock rotation including slow jams for the late nights all in their designated rotation categories that will meet the needs of the listeners until somebody can make the proper adjustments.

And yes I will do it free of charge if they are serious about being an Urban/Urban AC formatted station.

Just get at me!

Here is my top 8 facebook listener comments!

8 - they shouldnt have went on air without working all the kinks out first..

7 - What up wamo.. you are killing us with the pop music..some of us have been listening to wamo for 30+ years.. this is nothing like the old station
6 - if no one listens to this station because of the rhythmic direction then what would be the point of airing this format to attract advertisers

5 - What up WAMO. Everybody glad y'all back. But what up with all the POP music and speeding up the songs. Everything seems like KISS FM. Not feeling the new theme of wamo.

4 – I understand that a new station needs time to develop and grow along the way. But when the management claims they're here to serve the urban community and fill the void of no hip hop & r&b that was missing the past two years. Then sign on as a pop station hiding behind the Wamo name as a marketing ploy to gain back listeners

3 - PLEASE STOP ALL THE POP MUSIC. Review WAMO's older playlist and see what we want. I don't want to listen to kiss 2.0, if I did i'd just listen to kiss. If your gonna fill a void do it right

2 - will you stop playing f*ing brittany spears and katie perry !!!!?!?!?!?!? that aint hip hop or r&b ! wtf??? ur slogan is kiss sucks and ur playin the same g** d**n songs! i dont give a h**l if nicki minaj is featured. that b***h aint even hip hop or r&b. she is as pop as they come!

1 - Yo wat is this yall got me pissed y u keep sayin KISS sucks and u suck at least they play the music theyre supposed to play!$ then dont get me started on dese new corny dj's racks on racks if ur not gonna play da original track stop it!$! Somebody ned to fix that or no one goin be listening!$ Just want hip hop and r&b back!$!

I think they're trying to wean listeners away from Kiss - not just the people who went to Kiss when WAMO left, but the people who have been listening to Kiss all the time. You also have to remember a lot of those artists (Charlie Wilson is one that jumps out at me) were not heard on the old WAMO FM, they were relegated to WAMO on AM 860.

Honestly, this station is new and running on a shoestring. Don't expect it to be perfect immediately.

And for the love of all that's holy, please DO NOT encourage them to play Adele. She's beyond overexposed and the last thing I want is another station with her on its playlist...
