100.3 not going News/Talk!

I know that the rumor of a N/T on FM would be coming to LA via Bonneville. But I just saw there website and there looking for a Music Director for the Los Angeles market (KRBV). Now why would a N/T need a MD? Maybe the other rumor of someone going up against KOST is more viable now? Your thoughts please.

With all the rumors circulating out there,I would place my bet on another AC station in the LA area.If this happens, what personalites will the new station end up with?

Look for an Adult CHR/Hot AC hybrid coming soon to L.A. And look for a major shakeup in mornings to be happening soon as well.

Im not saying it will be 100.3, but something is going to flip there soon. KIIS makes way too much money to be the lone ranger in the format

Uhhh. excuse me, looks like they have a lot positions open. I don't think Big E should jump to his conclusions. IMHO, this list does not necessarily exclude or guarantee any format. It just means that they are letting all the RO people go and hiring their own.

It does beg the question why you'd post an opening for a Music Director if you don't plan on playing music...

Because the idea is to maintain mystery among the competition.

I don't know this market all that well, but I do know that letting the #1 talker in the market believe you're looking for a music director, rather than searching for a bumper producer is the smartest thing anyone could do.

Is there a hole in the market that justifies demand for another talker? Talk radio is most often more costly to run than a music format.

Perhaps for the same reason the requirement for such other jobs as Program Director are :• Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion. • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.

Whatever the case, they better be very aware of the signal limitations of 100.3FM. It's good for some type of formats, but very bad for anything that requires office listening.

Hmm. Good insight on both counts. I'd must say the "list" of available jobs looks like a music format - but the specifics look more newsy.

Does EEO require them to post ALL jobs? Could they hire a News Director and Reporters without listing it on the page there? I mean, lets say they want to hire a bunch of KNX/KFWB people away - if the positions are filled as they are created, do they need to disseminate the job opening?

If 100.3 is not going talk, why would they need a board op with a degree in journalism?

For that matter, their on-air talent requirements also call for a Bachelors in journalism.

So the speculation of news/talk/traffic for 100.3 is certainly valid. Especially since Bonneville has this format on FM in other markets like Phoenix and Washington D.C.

From my college days, a lot of universities did not have any other degree program for people wanting to get into broadcasting. At Ohio State in those days broadcast majors were under the journalism department and the radio and TV stations were separately run by professional broadcasters and not as labs for students.

They're looking for a New Media Director ... sounds like one of Bonneville's classic news web sites to me.

It's still important to consider that news is an option. There sre $55 million in billings in the fomrat, Bonneviloe has a #1 station in DC with the format (WTOP is not a talk station) and they know how to do the format. There is no issue with strong talent at other stations as there is with talk, just a matter of doing news better and on FM and the format has poossib ilities.

Radio and Records is reporting that Bonneville has confirmed to them it will do a music format on 100.3. Which format is not being disclosed.

This is true and at many universities that is still the case.

I guess we're not the only ones speculating on what 100.3 will be, Radio & Records is doing it too.

Their headline says: "Bonneville Will Play Music In L.A." and base their conclusion on the fact that there no postings for a news director, anchor or reporter.

We'll just have to wait and see come Monday night midnight when the flip is supposed to occur.

I imagine we'll hear some stunting first.

If it is going to be a music format, I wonder who Bonneville thinks is more vulnerable -- KOST or KIIS?

Fortunately, I did not get sucked into a journalism based or "communications" major, as I was working for 9 years before going to college.

I built my own curriculum, with things like sociology, cultural anthropology and psychology (the three bases of programming), statistics and math (ratings and research), business, finance, accounting, business law, etc. (radio as a business) and of course writing and literature in both of my principal languages. All of this was very helpful in my next position, but, of course, it did not get me a degree of any kind.
