100.3 Sale Off?

According to a post I saw on the Rajun' Cajun's Yahoo group, it seems that the sale of KLRZ from Truck to Citadel has been called off?

Supposedly, the reason for doing so was that the New Orleans market has condensed since Katrina, and Citadel didn't feel that the advertising $$$ would be there to support a 5th station in their portfolio.

If this is true, maybe we can hope for this guy to return to station ownership?

Ah yes, those halcyon days when an aircheck recorded around Mardi Gras might have Grant saying "... and that was last year's ZephyrFest artist [insert the name of any number of cool bands that you don't hear any more]. Let's have a quick check of traffic [insert 15 minutes of Grant babbling with a laughing Bob Frost], now stand by for [another cool band], but first, here's "Commode-Huggin' Drunk" [played for the 5,285th time that day on direct order of RMH].

Ugh.

If this is true, then who owns 100.3 now, Jerry or the shell Company from Delware who brought it from Jerry in 2003 to put it up for sale according to the FCC filing last year when the sale was announced?

Both:)

From what I can tell thru the legaleze in the contract (that's on the FCC website under the appliation for citadel), Jerry and his wife own Coastal Broadcasting of Larose which own the license to KLRZ and KLEB (Gisclair owns KANE thru annother corporation called Coastal broadcasting of Lafourche). The LLC from Delaware basically holds everything else as most buisnesses like Delware for it's lower tax structure among other things.

Now the question is if Jerry will try to sell again in a repressed, shrinking New Orleans market, or will he be forced to do what he is doing now by sticking to the TriParish Area with a somewhat better signal but how long will that last with higher operating costs and less revenue from NO advertisers?

But here's another wild card, with Sunburst Media buying Garranty's Houma Cluster and trying to get back into radio, could KLRZ be on the block to Sunburst to make it a Sunburst/New Orleans station entry since all other Sunburst stations fail to reach past the Jefferson Parish Line.

BTW, with the End changing to country, I was hoping Citadel would have brought rock back to KLRZ and possibly the Z-100 monkier and "broadcasting between 2 cow pastures" liners.

I don't know the situation as well as I would like but from what I've gathered, the new power increase was a done deal (as gisclair applied for it in 2001 and was granted the CP in 2003) before Citadel even offered to buy or was in the market...One of his problems was he had a signal that would disappear on 100.3 when tropo ducting came in and KRRV Alexandria would take over in Houma/Thibodaux..hopefully with the 79kw no more.

Also I think Gisclair did the same thing as Guaranty..Have an outside company wave enough money and you're bound to have a seller...

Yeah but technically I think they won't increase anymore than what they have as money issues (Gotta pay off that $12 mil somehow or at least build a market before buying again) plus the FCC may say something because the amout of share of the local media they would own if they bought 100.3 even though technically a good broadcast attorney could probably figure out a way to get around it (like Citadel with 106.1 and the fact that KLRZ is technically outside the New Orleans DMA (even though everyone knows Citadel's plan was for the station to aim toward NOLA) in 100.3's case)

Some have said Citadel wasn't interested in bringing back the rock (they haven't in Baton Rouge where the station that replaced their rock station is only now getting the same numbers as the rock station, the other is doing 1/2 roughly of it's previous format)..IF they were, I'd figured they would have tried one of their weird ideas on a format (Like go AAA than alternative)
The Z-100 and the "with a tower between two cow pastures" I think was more from the CHR days than the classic rock days, but still local radio announcing at it's best....

Besides, Sunburst finally did justice to the 106 frequency and added new rock which has been missing since at least the early 90s if not earlier (at least since Costello of WRNO fame had it).

The next player we may see in the market is out of Southern Mississippi by the name of Dowdy. WPRF has an application to move it's transmitter from Reserve to SE of Thibodaux in the St.Charles community. Some have hinted WPRF may go country and may serve Houma..others are on the fence.... knowing that he has a classic rocker around the gulf coast, I'd figure he would flip WPRF to new rock for a little while at least for NOLA...

If Jerry is truly going to keep the station, I think he needs to start thinking about some MAJOR changes....
certainly the format is alright, esp. for the AM station, but he needs to do something about the morning programming. Thats his bread and butter.

It has been rumored that Buddy could be leaving soon....and if he does, he'll need a replacement there. And as for Talk on the Bayou, Kirk does an OK job, but there are a lot of people that dont like him because he just knows too much. Kirk would be good as a "sidekick", but they need a good host again. I think that Brennon Matherne guy has probably done the best out of all the hosts they have had while he was there. I understand he is still living in the Parish working for the government as I still hear him on Saturday mornings on the Sports Corner. He's young, but he's good.
They need to get him to come back. I understand the move to his current job was more about money than wanting to leave the station.

They need to get those other sports guys to retire. I know they try to go for some local flavor, but they need to hire some more radio professionals like Matherne to come in and add professionalism along with the local flavor.

They also need to do away with Gloria. She is a very sweet lady and everything, but she is NOT a radio professional, and causes me and people I know to turn the dial.

If the sale was about money to Gisclair, he is sitting on a gold mine right now, all he has to do it shell out some money for some real radio talent and salespeople and they'll be back on top again.
But remember Gislcair...you have to SPEND money to GET money....

With KTIB off the air for good, Here's hoping for the return of prominence of 100.3!
