100.3 The Beat is gone!

Well, RO has done it again and 100.3 The Beat, Magic, 100.3 or whatever it was is now KRBV...V100.

Interestingly, Dallas-Fort Worth had Urban KRBV "V100" on 100.3 from 1995-2004. Perhaps some people there have some bumper stickers and other stuff they can pass along...!

Just saw their tv spot on KCAL 9 News at 2 PM. Cliff is doing the spot (Cliff Winston, Mornings fonted). Kicking off with 100 hours of commerical free music (per the spot). Big deal. There isn't room for 3 stations, 2 of them Urban AC's, almost exclusively targeting a black audience in Los Angeles.

This has got to be the most change on one frequency in a while. Since 96 its been: KEZY, KIBB, KCMG, KKBT, and now KRBV. I happend to be there from the end of KEZY to the flip flop of signals with KCMG and KKBT. I always heard old radio people say that this frequency has always had bad luck, maybe they werent too far off.

KXEZ, not KEZY. KEZY was 95.9 FM.

Correct me if I am wrong here but memory only (which is fading) tells me the KIQQ was K-100, of course, first then in the late 70's I believe was briefly an AC as FM100 or did that come just before K-Lite? I certainly remember the KIQQ top 40 days of the early 80's as I use to go see Jay Coffey up in the 6430 Sunset Building (now the CNN building) all the time during the George Wilson, Paula Matthews, G. W. (double-ya) McCoy days (great view of Hollywood from the studio). Although the music mix was adventurious (lots of new wave music), that was one horrible top 40 (excpet for Jay, Jim Carson and Bruce Chandler/Tony St. James). I first met Bruce and Jay while I was in high school as they came out to speak on careers. Why did they ever encourage me to get into this biz? Shame on them.

The KIQQ calls and CHR format w/ Jim Carson doing mornings actually started in 1972. It was in 1973, still using the calls but revving up the music and format, they became the legendary K-100 with Drake, Morgan and Steele.

It was KIQQ and Coffey, Chandler, Carson, and co. that made me get into this business too... It was an awful top 40 -but when you're a teenager what do you know? If it weren't for 100.3 - I probably wouldn't have gone into the business.

I always want the frequency to do well - but it has really fallen on hard times.

My influences were more KHJ, K100, KKDJ and Ten Q. Thanks to Bobby RIch, I was lucky to have worked my first job at 338 S. Western, the former funeral parlor that housed Ten Q, KGBS and KHTZ.

Unless it mentions the city, I wonder if Radio One is shipping their 100.3 The Beat promotional stuff from Los Angeles to their 100.3 The Beat in Philadelphia? It's all about budget!

And don't forget KFOX 100.3 until 1973.

Wow. Did they start the station with "Lets Get It On" by Marvin Gaye.
I remember when KJMZ 100.3 in Dallas/Ft. Worth flipped to KRBV on 9/1/1995. The sweepers and voices sound the same from back then. Lets see, Barry Mayo was the consultant for the D/FW version of KRBV, and he is the GM of the version of KRBV/LA. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Not likely, a lot of the recent promos were Urban AC related, WPHI is still Mainstream Urban, no?
