100.3 Urban AC Pirate

Hey rapking....sounds like there's an Urban AC in Boston finally!
I heard Mtume's "You me and He" and then Jodeci on 100.3 FM tonight.
MUST be a pirate.

When will people learn NOT to look up to illegal pirates as heroes? If one fired up on WVCH's frequency, I'd DF him, get the cops and the Philly FCC office on his butt. Then I'd short the rig's output circuit and watch the the the damned thing fry. Then throw the guy in jail. THAT's how you deal with people who have no respect for broadcast law. Ciao, LAUROJRM, rapking: Sorry, but rules are rules in this country! What IS it about all this that you don't understandand what about it isn't good enough for you????

It's called "100.3 Flex FM" It sounds ok so far, I'm feeling it.

That is crazy. That pirate is in the secondary coverage area of WHEB-FM in Portsmouth, NH, a fairly good rock station that has listeners in the Boston area. Putting a pirate stepping-on a protected coverage area is wrong, dead wrong. It's one thing to use a semi-clear channel. It's another thing to throw a pirate station on a protected coverage contour. The boots are getting really out of hand.

When they start relaying C-Span.

Get a grip, it's simple civil disobedience. The FCC has mechanisms to deal with pirates. I'm not going to lose any sleep with them operating unpunished because there are bigger fish to fry.

YES !!!!!! I love it ! Thank you for the info !

Now I have all kinds of interference on 100.3 this is nuts. 'HEB's parent company (clear channel?) pays big money for the rights and licenses to broadcast on this channel. This pirate is STEALING from this company, possibly affecting people's livlihoods. This is wrong. Hey Rapking would it be ok for me to come into your place of employment and steal everything? Hey it would be an act of civil disobedience and if I gave it all away it would help the community!

I suggest that all law-abiding readers of this board send
an Email to the local FCC field office, and urge them
to act now. If crap monarch, bye-bye, and junior
don't like it - tough %$#^...GET OVER IT!

I thought they spun some good tunes on the station tonite. I hope they keep it up

Not glorifying criminal activity in any way, these pirates are merely in response to the sad state of Boston radio. I mean if SALT LAKE CITY has a Rhythmic AC..why can't we have one? Doesn't make sense. Anyways I'm sure this pirate won't last long, that close to WZLX and WHEB.

Below is a copy of the letter I have sent to the commisioner of the FCC.

Sir,

The situation with pirate radio operators in Boston is getting very out of hand. There is one illegal pirate station "Touch 106.1 FM" That is blatantly rubbing the commissions nose in it. Not only does "Touch FM" sell advertising but the owner has been interviewed in major Boston newspapers and on Major Boston TV stations. There is also a pirate in the Haverhill, Ma area on 100.3 FM which is in the secondary protection zone of WHEB FM. I can no longer get WHEB FM at my home due to this all I get now is interference. There is also a pirate on 94.9 in Brockton, Ma among others. This is getting very out of hand. I understand that "Touch FM" has been fined but they continue to operate. It is an embarrassment for the commission that they cannot control the airwaves they are charged with controlling. These pirates are taking away from law abiding companies that spend big money on permits, licenses, and engineering studies. I urge the commission to take this situation seriously and shut these pirates down by whatever means necessary. Seize their equipment and put the operators in jail! Jail time is the only way to stop other people from picking up where the others have left off. Let's get serious on this issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Well said punx. Now send the same letter as an Email to
the local FCC field office in Quincy...

As for wbimdj -- I guess that they have your blessing if
they decide to set up shop on 91.5 ...

>>the sad state of Boston radio

Check out some college stations like WMWM (two of whose DJs are on this very thread :) ), or be like
me and get one of those special magic radios that give you hundreds of interesting channels for
about 43 cents a day. ;)

Actually, AFAIK that is not a recognized channel for interference complaints anymore. The FCC centralized all interference resolution at the national level nearly ten years ago. Letters to the local FCC branch office in Quincy will, at best, be forwarded to DC...if not just ignored.

Remember, the FCC places the premium on complaints from listeners (not stations) that live inside the protected 60dBu contour of the station receiving the interference. Accordingly, it will be hard to find listeners that meet that criteria since WHEB's 60dBu contour barely reaches Beverly, never mind Dorchester. However, depending on how many watts the pirate is using, you might easily find listeners to WBRS 100.1 receiving interference inside WBRS's contour. Better still, WZLX 100.7's 60dBu contour easily covers all of metro Boston, so if there's any WZLX listeners in Dorchester, by the legal definition they are receiving interference.

Written complaints alleging violations of Section 301 of the Communications Act should be sent to:
Federal Communications Commission
Enforcement Bureau
Spectrum Enforcement Division
445 12th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20554

Complaints should include the name of the operator, if known, how the station identifies itself, the location of the station, the operating frequency, and whether the station's operation is causing interference.

 ??? NOW I understand why all the outrage regarding all these pirate radio stations, now I understand why of all the outrage.

Ok, I live in Revere, Massachusette area, I used to be able to get 106.1 WCOD from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I got it (excelent!!!!) It came in excelent, but now, it hasn't come in for a long time, same with 96.3 The Rose (which is simular to KISS 108) and even better. I used to be able to get that station (EXCELENT!!!) but I have not been able to get that station, I'm assuming because of that 96.3 Pirate in Brockton?
Now, I understand why of all the outrage.

Yes, you all have a right to be mad, everyone has their own opinion.

I also have to say, also, Anchroge, Alaska has a NEW station up there since ?? March 2008, it is called "Movin 104.9" , why can't Boston just have that kind of simular station here?

Anyways, thank you

Because I like Touch 106.1, please don't look down on me, Rapking or anyone else who like that station, they play the music that (we) want to hear. Please do not look down on me. I'm not bad like that, please don't judge me bad.

Maybe your employer (a legal station?) would be
interested to know about your open support of
illegal stations. How long do you think you
would remain employed after that?
If they do hear about it, it won't be from me...

If you want to hear your favorite tunes, get an IPod...

Boston Need a Urban A/C Format station. More Urban A/C Pirate stations will pop up in Boston, Until a real Legal Boston Urban A/C sign on. Ipods,CD's,VH-One Soul, and Satellite Radio are cool, but there is nothing local about them. What if there No local newscast in Boston, and the only news that available in Boston, are CNN,C-SPAN,FOX News, and MSNBC ?
