100.3 vs 98.7 in Somerset, Kentucky

I'm up visiting friends in Somerset this week. Quick reception report: 100.3 is solid, both in the car and in the house. No problem hearing them on a $20 AM/FM portable radio. The signal was ALWAYS there on the drive up, even in the big hills between I-75 and Somerset.

As for 98.7, if I follow the instructions on 100.3 and "please change your radio dial now to 98.7 FM", I get a COUNTRY station out of Liberty, Kentucky!

I guess someone forgot that 100.3's coverage area takes in a LOT more than just the Knoxville metro area. In many cases, tuning to 98.7 produces only static or (worse) another radio station. Ruh roh!

Forgot, no. It's very easy to remember that not one business in Somerset was buying time on 100.3. Triple H isn't doing live spots for Alton Blakely Ford Lincoln Honda, and Phil ain't doin remotes from Roses on Highway 27. Who cares if the beam gets out that far if you can't turn it into $$$?

Alton Blakely used to be an advertiser on The Hitkicker.

I'm just saying.

There's a beauty in the flexibility of private companies, especially when it comes to trade. For free trade gas and maintenance, an aggressive sales rep will prospect to the limits of his or her signal. And how many of us swapped for those bread box-sized Tennessee Mobilephones?

That was when salespeople owned tennis or walking shoes, right?

Yeah, but that was long ago and far, far away...

Hasn't happened in more recent memory.

Signal still comes in loud and clear, so I don't see your point.

There are only half a dozen of us on this board anyway, and the casual observers know we're all full of it. With the exception of Walker, who has the 'nads not to hide behind his anonymity. So here's jetfli's point Mr. boogiecheck....

Citadel's future is in dumping its 100kw stations because they don't know how to drive outside the metro. (Coalfield is metro Oliver Springs, BTW.) So Citadel is GIVING ME 107.7 for the HUMONGOUS tax benefits and moving their dominant successful country programming to the 99's. I'm using the gift to offset the loss of the value of my Citadel stock, so we're both in tall cotton with this.

They're saying it's freaking brilliant, and I'm going to agree until the FCC signs off on it. Wonder if Johnny would rent Ed to me for a couple hours a day?

In all fairness, they were against this until they remembered they hadn't done anything majorly stupid in the last couple of days.
