Once again I happened to catch the 100.5 pirate on the air. This time I was southbound on 315 and as some other posters have stated, his signal definitely peaks at the Hospital Curve. In fact I could hear his synth phase noise on both adjacent channels just as I was passing the Cantebury high-rise building. The noise bleedover quickly disappeared once I passed the building.
Based on this observation, I think the station is located on one of the the upper floors of this building. Based on my years as a Telcom Technician, I know you don’t need much power or much of an antenna to have a kick-butt signal from that height above ground level. In fact, if you can do so safely while driving past the place, take a look at the top floor balcony on the Northwest corner of the building. Looks like somebody has lashed up some sort of antenna pole on one of the balcony support posts.
I have nothing against the pirate, I just enjoy the challenge of tracking down rogue signal sources. It’s a common activity in the two-way radio biz. If the pirate happens to read this board….c’mon dude, play a little Pink Floyd now and then !!
