100.7 question

When WCMC was simulcasting, the FM used the rinky dink four bay pronged 70' H antenna on the existing AM tower on NJ Avenue, I think its still there now. My question is, when did 100.7 move to the Channel 40 tower, was it when they went separate and were called Radio 100 Plus WRBN???? or something like that and were a satellite MOR, or was it when they were off the air a few weeks and came back as WZXL??? Thanks in advance. I can also remember the old tower WCMC used in the 50's early 60's, the tower you see now was put up in the early 60's, don't recall the exact time, I have a pic of the studios and tower in the 50's, I will put a pic up soon..

The tower on New Jersey Avenue is NOT the AM tower,
the AM tower is on 19th Street. That tower was built
around 1966 for WCMC-TV. WCMC-FM became WNBR
when Howard Green's group bought channel 40.
(Big cash infusion allowed them to pay off debt,
buy new equipment, get vinyl replacement windows
at the studio, and things like that) (I'm not kidding)
100.7 went stereo for the first time with a very slick
automation system (around 1980) When the bigger tower
went up for Channel 40 on Avalon Boulevard, they
moved there with a new transmitter at 20,000 watts, (1981?)
it was later increased to 27,000 watts to avoid
having to downgrade to a Class B1. When Bear Broadcasting
bought it, and it became WZXL, they installed all new
equipment from Mike to Antenna, and eventually went
to the present power of 38,000 watts.
That was the sequence of events, I helped with some of it.

Thanks for the info, I know where the AM tower is near the back bay, what I would like to know is, was the AM ever on the NJ Avenue tower, or was it always where it is now. I seem to remember the old tower on NJ Avenue but I do not remember any bays on it for the FM, on the pictures I have I do not see it, I know the 4 bay prong antenna was still on the NJ Avenue tower as of last year. Did Ron Joseph ever put a television signal out on that tower??

I know you mean WZXL, but there are three stations on 100.7 receivable in New Jersey (WHUD, WLEV, WZXL).
______________

I have a place in North Wildwood and I can confirm that the tower on New Jersey Ave is still there. Whether it's being used for anything, I couldn't tell you. Perhaps Tom could. Don't even know if WCMC still uses the building or if they moved it with the other Equity stations.
______________

How long ago did they take down the WZXL & WCMC signs off the NJ Avenue transmitter?
______________

Don't forget WJRZ's translator, W264AM in Toms River, cranking out 55 watts on 100.7.

I believe, correct me if Im wrong, but the calls are still on the building. Or, at least the WCMC ones were. I'll have to scope it out next weekend.
______________

That tower makes a ton of cash - it's loaded with
cell phone antennas. The call letters were probably
removed to reduce the wind loading on the tower.
I didn't know they took them down, I haven't been
down there in awhile.
Yes, WCMC is still in the building.

As of last year (last time I was there), the big red letters of WCMC & WZXL were still on the building.
______________
