100.7 The Eagle Launched in Henderson/Watertown, NY

Community Broadcasters have been trying to grab market share from Stephens Media owned WFRY Froggy 97 who carries modern country and has been the number one station in the Watertown market for years with their massive 97kw signal. In 2010 Community Broadcasters flipped WLFK 95.3 from oldies to modern country as the Wolf and is carried in Watertown by a low powered translator on 104.1. This didn't appear to take many listeners away from Froggy 97.

As of September 6th, 100.7 WEFX has been flipped from classic hits to modern country. Area listeners can still find classic hits on WCIZ and also on CKWS from nearby Kingston. 100.7 The Eagle and sounds very similar Community Broadcasters owned 95.3 the Wolf. The format is similar to Froggy 97 and with a full power signal they are in a better position to compete with Froggy. The domain 1007theeagle.com has also been registered by Community Broadcasters.

Personally I would have liked to see them combine 95.3 and 100.7 since they are running the same format on both. The signal for 100.7 fades quickly to the east and northeast of Watertown. 95.3 is broadcast from Gouverneur, NY which sits to the northeast of Watertown and covers this area better. Combining 95.3 and 100.7, along with the 104.1 translator inside the city of Watertown would create a coverage area that would compare to WFRY's and become a real threat to their number one ratings spot.

Hi Spunker,

Question: What runs on 104.1 FM Watertown now?

Oswego, NY.

Looks like 104.1 has now flipped to relaying 1240 WATN. Before that it was a translator for 95.3 The Wolf. 104.1 has a pretty small coverage area but it is the first AM on FM signal for Watertown.
