Is it just me or is the River sounding the best its ever have? It seems to me that they are playing alot more classic rock than they used to, im starting to hear alot less classic hits like they have been playing. And with 106.1 going talk do you think 100.7 will go after the RDU call letters, or will they stay on 106.1?

I think the WRDU calls fit great with a talk format, plus it's news about the "RDU" area. I'd leave them there.
WRDU sounds like newsy call letters, like business types who listen would also recognize the airport designation and all that. They sound almost "heritage" [even thought it's still associated with classic rock in many minds, the number is dwindling over time].
I still can't figure out why The River backannounces every set of songs, though, like the songs are new and unfamiliar. I guess hearing "That was Slow Ride by Foghat, Elton John's Philadelphia Freedom, Queen did Bohemian Rhapsody, etc." is comforting?

Anyway, am I reading this right? I looked up WZZU and found that it's a VERY low-power (can you believe only 570 watts?) FM station located on multiple points on the dial, along with a translator (I thought only the religious stations like the K-Love network used translators?) based in Farmville, Va.

The Farmville translator lists WZZU as its parent but is not on the air as far as I can tell.
"The Planet" is WZZU 97.9C3 in Lynchburg, WZZI 106.9A in Bedford, W247AD 97.3D in Roanoke. Until recently, WZZI was WLEQ and 101.5A in Roanoke was the primary station as WZZI. 101.5 is now WVMP with an AAA format.
97.9, despite its low power level, is up on a really high mountain. I'm more than 40 miles out and get a very strong signal. In fact, the same mountain is home to WNRS 89.9A, doing all of 30 watts and I know people 60 miles out that listen reliably until WCPE 89.7C steps on it.
97.9 has held the WZZU call letters for a number of years now. At one time, 101.5 in Roanoke was modern rock station "Z101" and the owner decided to dump Oldies "The River" WRVX in Lynchburg in favor of a simulcast of WZZI, thus the WZZU call letters.
