100.7

It was pointed out on the Charlotte board that 100.7 has been adding more 60s. Upon looking at their playlist online, it looks like they are becoming more of a "greatest hits" format. Still rock leaning, soul/motown type missing but they have evolved. Here's a sample from 11AM Thursday:

Stevie Nicks - Edge of 17
Monkees - I'm A Believer
Supertramp - Give A Little Bit
Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
Huey Lewis - Heart & Soul
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Billy Joel - Big Shot
Turtles - Happy Together
Police - Every Breath You Take
Elton John - Crocodile Rock
Journey - Separate Ways
ELO - Livin Thing

I see a lot of Beatles, some Little River Band, James Taylor, Loggins & Messina, King Harvest, 70s AC'ish songs also - then AC/DC ???. Can't really pass this station as a classic rocker anymore, never seemed really aggressive to me. This looks very similar to what CC just recently did in San Fransisco - morphed a classic rock station in to classic hits then re-named it "Oldies 103.7"....

I see some songs that probably haven't been played on 100.7 since 2004. Could they be flirting with the 60s/70s/80s "greatest hits" format that has become popular in recent years (basically, an updated Oldies 100.7 with much less 60s, more 70s, and 80s)?

AC/DC sticks out when listening just as bad as it does on paper. They used to daypart music like that to nights and weekends, now it just sounds odd considering the direction of the rest of the station.

I saw some more songs just recently such as "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)", "Down Under", "Cecilia", "Get Together", "Daniel", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "December, 1963"....then there's a Def Leppard song. They seem to have some strange classic rock titles left amongst all of these more "classic hits" pop/rock & AC songs. Their long term direction will be interesting. AAA, gold rock, rock'ish classic hits, classic rock, now classic hits again. If they had some disco/R&B/motown titles, they'd be a "greatest hits" station, musically.

It's funny that they are playing these songs again....Oldies 100.7 introduced me to many of the 50s, 60s or 70s songs I know!

pop leaning classic hits is big again (never was passe' except to some CC types back in 03-04). many classic hits stations, still playing 60s titles, popping up. Can't go into the 80s too much. WMJI/Cleveland, a powerhouse oldies/classic hits, does this very well. They go as old as "Shout" by the Isley Brothers (1959) and at night will play Aerosmith (dont agree with that). They're #1 last three PPMs. They've had the same strong morning show since 1985, that certainly helps. But they keep the music core 69-75 for the most part.
