100.9 wkli

I don't understand how this format is working. 103.5/103.9 is floundering in the ratings and100.9 is pretty static. There has to be a format change coming soon...any thoughts?? ???

I think it's time for Jamz 100.9 :) In fact, let's move Jamz to 100.9, and put a new format on 96.3 and 104.9... Cat isn't even putting much of a dent into GNA, and we'll need something for 96.3 if Jamz moved to 100.9... (Magic on 96.3 or 104.9?)

103.5/103.9 Q103 seems to be doing pretty well in the ratings and has been for some time now. And it may be a bit early to write WKLI off just yet.....

Time to launch Classic Country. Would draw listeners and keep #1 on it's toes. 100.9 has the signal and with the proper promotion, they would get decent ratings. So far, no one has put this format on a good signal in the market. There is an unserved audience that is tired of "Countrypolitan" music and loves True Country.

Classic Country was tried at least 3 or 4 times in the market before... 93.7 The Eagle, 1240 WVKZ, and 96.3 WPTR... would it work on 100.9 or still fail? If you were to move Cat to 100.9 and tweak the music, what does this mean, Magic on 104.9?

93.7 had zero promotion ,and you can't base whether the format would be viable based on it being on 1240....the coverage isn't market-wide. 100.9 has fantastic coverage.
I wasn't talking about minor format "tweeks" to a modern country formatted station; I was thinking about a gold based country station that targets 25+. The market leader in Country plays a sliver of Country and steers away from anything sounding traditional.

Would the demographics of the Albany area support it though? That would be the main concern for formats like Classic Country, Urban AC or Dance :)

Urban AC might work (Albany is 8.8% Black, last I checked), but would it be viable in the long run? Maybe on an AM like 1240, 1460 or 900 for example :p Classic Country would have a similar issue, it doesn't perform well in other markets...

I have given up on classic country coming to the capital region again. Even 1410 in S. Glens Falls appears to be phasing it out by adding talk shows. It is what sells pure and simple and classic country does not get the listener base. The best we can hope for is for a mainstream country station to put a couple of classics in the rotation each hour, but even that seems unlikely. GNA has a classic country block program 6-9AM on Sunday. I like to sleep in on Sunday, not a great time to air it.

Albany County has a significant Black population but the Black population of the 6 county metro on which Arbitron ratings are based is only 6.6%. The Hispanic population comprises only 2.6% of the metro. It's just a very lily white market and a lot of the songs which were hits in more ethnically diverse markets don't have the same level of popularity here.

As for Classic Country, it might eventually show up on an HD channel or as an internet radio station. Of course, Garth, Alan Jackson, Reba, & George Strait rather than George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Hank WIlliams, and Loretta Lynn would be the mainstays of "Today's Classic Country".

IIRC, 104.9 went Country just to try to take away enough from GNA so FLY could be #1... however, could the issue be that FLY is stuck in the middle between B95 and Jamz? Seems like there'd be a lot of overlap between FLY and B95 on the Adult side and FLY and Jamz on the Rhythmic/Urban side :)
